UMAC Athletes of the Week: March 2-8, 2026

ST. PAUL, Minn.-- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced their Athlete of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s tennis. The awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications staff and selected each week by the latter group.
 
Baseball Player of the Week
Devin Frydenlund, So, UW-Superior, UTL
Belleville, Wis./Belleville
 
Frydenlund led the offense in Superior's first day in Florida. Taking on Beloit, he hit a first-inning grand slam to ultimately propel the 'Jackets to a 5-4 win against the Buccaneers.
 
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Austin Bowlan, Jr, North Central
Rifle, Colo./Rifle
 
Bowlan had a strong showing on the mound against Elms College, pitching 6.0 innings while only allowing 6 hits, 1 run, and 0 earned runs. He also totaled 10 strikeouts in his first win as a Ram.
 
Softball Player of the Week
Olivia Sanborn, Fr, Bethany Lutheran, OF
Chippewa Falls, Wis./Chippewa Falls
 
Sanborn collected 10 hits and batted .526 in the final six games of Bethany's spring break trip to Clermont, Fla. The Vikings went 4-2 in those games as Sanborn increased her season batting average from .294 to .417. Sanborn also scored nine runs with two RBI, a triple, three walks, and seven stolen bases in eight attempts.
 
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Emily Meyer, Jr, Bethany Lutheran
Swea City, Iowa/North Union
 
Meyer pitched 21.1 innings in six games to close out Bethany's spring break trip to Clermont, Fla. She went 3-1 with two no decisions. Meyer registered 20 strikeouts and allowed five earned runs for an ERA of 1.64.
 
Men’s Tennis North Division Athlete of the Week
Mateo Abarca Pino, Sr, UW-Superior
Riobamba, Ecuador/El Despertar
 
Abarca Pino garnered a pair of wins to open the Yellowjackets' spring break trip to Florida. In doubles play versus Emerson, he won 6-3 at the No. 3 position with Keanu Lin and came back to win 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-6) over his counterpart at No. 4 singles.
 
Men’s Tennis South Division Athlete of the Week
Alvaro Martin Moliz, Jr, Principia
Salobreña, Spain/IES Mediterraneo
 
Against Simpson College on Saturday, Alvaro and his partner won 6-0 at #1 doubles, and then he cruised to a 6-0, 6-3 win at #3 singles in the Panthers' 7-0 victory.
 
Women’s Tennis North Division Athlete of the Week
Daylyn Drew, Sr, UW-Superior
Negaunee, Mich./Negaunee
 
Drew teamed up with Elif Oezen at No. 3 doubles to defeat their Emerson counterparts 6-4 before she picked up a victory in straight sets over Abigail Miner 6-0, 6-1 at the third singles position.
 
Women’s Tennis South Division Athlete of the Week
Kimbeley Peterson, Sr, Principia
Mutare, Zimbabwe/St. Dominic’s
 
Peterson went 4-0 this past weekend at #3 singles and #1 doubles as she helped Principia get its first two wins of the season. After a 6-1 doubles win against NCAA Division II opponent, Kentucky Wesleyan, she earned a hard-fought singles victory in the third set tiebreaker 6-0, 6-7, 10-8. Those wins were huge as the Panthers ultimately won 4-3 and needed her points. Then against Simpson, Peterson didn't lose a single game in either singles or doubles for two dominant wins.
