UW-Superior Takes Lead, Martin Luther and North Central Break Records on Day One of UMAC Men’s Indoor Championship

SUPERIOR, Wis. – After day one of the UMAC Men’s Indoor Track & Field Championship, the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets lead the conference with 112 points. Eight event championships were decided on Friday with new all-time UMAC records being set in the 4x200 Relay and High Jump.

UW-Superior won four of the eight event championships on Friday. Zachary Reese won the 5000 Meters (16:14.29) and joined Ben Plackner, Dylan Uitto, and Aidan Doherty as a team to win the Distance Medley Relay (11:09.12). In the field events, Carson Wilhorn won the Weight Throw (15.85m) and Will Schorr won the Long Jump (6.57m).
 
The Martin Luther College Knights stand in second place with 73 points. The MLC relay team of Arthur Robinson, Lucas Holtz, Matthew Hillmer, and Stephen Wietzke broke the UMAC Indoor Championship record for the 4x200 Relay (1:30.95), breaking the previous record (1:32.81) set by the College of St. Scholastica Saints team of Hanson, Milon, Guentzel, and Perry in 2012. In addition to that record-breaking championship, the Knights had a second champion on Friday with Daniel Ertman winning the 400 Meters (51.17).
 
The 4x200 was not the only UMAC Indoor Championship record broken on Friday as Isaac Weiers of the North Central University Rams set a new conference championship mark in the High Jump (2.02m). Weier’s jump broke the previous record (2.01m) set by Corey Anderson of St. Scholastica in 2016.
 
The Crown College Polars had an event champion on Friday as Andrew Deedon won the Mile (4:28.83).
 
Saturday's events for the men’s championship open at 11:00am with the Shot Put and Pole Vault and close with the 4x400-meter Relay at 2:30pm.
