ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced their Athlete of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of men's and women's basketball, softball, men’s and women’s track and field, and men’s and women’s tennis. The awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications staff and selected each week by the latter group.
MEN'S BASKETBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Remy Wedgeworth-Brown, Junior, North Central Rams
Aurora, Colo. / Overland
- Wedgeworth-Brown came up huge for the Rams, averaging 22 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists in wins over MLC and BLC. He was also highly efficient offensively, shooting 76.2% (16-21) from the field and a perfect 100% (7-7) from three-point range. This included a career-high 28-point performance against BLC to help NCU seal a piece of its first-ever UMAC Regular Season Title.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Maddy Grove, Sophomore, Minnesota Morris
Morris, Minn. / Morris Area
- Maddy had another incredible week of basketball for the Cougars, averaging 31 points and 5.5 rebounds over two contests. She was the leading scorer in both UMAC matchups.
SOFTBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Kaija Mork, Senior, Bethany Lutheran Vikings
Sioux Falls, S.D. / Brandon Valley
- Mork had an impressive weekend for the Vikings, going 7-for-8 in a pair of contests against MIAC foe. She kicked the slate of games off Sunday with a no doubt home run in the bottom of the first inning in a game against Hamline where she went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI. She then followed that up with a 4-for-4 effort against a Saint Mary's team that received votes in the NFCA top 25 poll in the second game of the day.
SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Samantha Swartz, Junior, UW-Superior Yellowjackets
Antigo, Wis. / Antigo
- Swartz was credited with the first win of the 2025 season Friday, as the Yellowjackets traveled to the Dundas Dome to take on Macalester and Carleton in a season-opening doubleheader. She came into the circle in the bottom of the fourth inning and allowed just two hits and one run against the Scots to lock up the first victory of the new campaign.
MEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Arthur Robinson, Freshman, Martin Luther Knights
New Ulm, Minn. / Luther Prep
- Robinson went up against DII and DIII competition at the Maverick Invite hosted by Minnesota State on Friday. Robinson placed fifth in the 200-meter dash, clocking in with a PR time of 22.71 seconds. The freshman also added a third-place finish in the triple jump, hitting a PR mark of 12.88 meters in that event.
WOMEN'S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Emery Maki, Junior, Northwestern Eagles
Hibbing, Minn. / Hibbing
- Maki continued to break more records this weekend. She broke two school records and one personal record. In the 800, the junior burned nearly 3 seconds off her record to maintain the fastest time in program history of 2:20.60 along with the top mark in the UMAC. She also helped her team to a 3rd place finish in the 4x400 relay against all divisions with a time of 4:11.38, which leads the UMAC by 19 seconds. Finally, in the 400, she notched a 4th place finish and is second in the UMAC with a time of 1:02.38.
MEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Isaac Weiers, Senior, North Central Rams
Neillsville, Wis. / Neillsville
- At the Snowshoe Open, Weiers delivered another impressive performance in the high jump, clearing 1.96m to set a new personal best and climb to #46 in the NCAA Division III rankings. This mark now leads the UMAC.
WOMEN'S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Grace Moravchik, Sophomore, Northwestern Eagles
Mason, Wis. / Ashland
- Moravchik represented UNW in two meets this weekend. In long jump, after tying the All-Time UNW record in the long jump last week, Moravchik broke the program record at the Gene Glader Classic on Saturday, keeping her atop the UMAC with a distance of 5.15 meters (16'10.75"). She also raced in the 200, 400 and 4x400. In the 200, she set a personal record with a second place finish and a time of 27.50. She is now second in the UMAC in this event. In the 400 meter dash, Moravchik crossed the finish line first with a new personal record of 61.27 seconds, which is the fastest time in the UMAC. On Friday, in the 4x400 relay, the sophomore anchored her team to a 3rd place finish against all divisions with a time of 4:11.38, which leads the UMAC by 19 seconds.
WOMEN’S TENNIS NORTH DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Allison Bruhn, Junior, Minnesota Morris Cougars
Willmar, Minn. / Willmar
- Bruhn dominated on the court over the weekend, playing in the No. 1 pairing for doubles and as the No. 1 for singles. With her doubles partner Minami Rikimaru, Bruhn defeated Buena Vista's No. 1 pairing in a 6-1 final score. She won by scores of 6-3,6-0 in her singles match to sweep the day.
MEN’S TENNIS SOUTH DIVISION ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Colton Hulme, Freshman, Greenville Panthers
Edwardsville, Ill. / Edwardsville
- Hulme went 1-0 at #3 doubles and went 1-1 in singles while picking up a win playing in the #2 singles position for the first time. Hulme teamed up with Clark Kent to defeat the duo from Spring Arbor University 6-4 at the #3 doubles position. Against Albion College, Hulme defeated his opponent 6-0, 6-1.
The UMAC is an NCAA Division III member comprised of eight full-time member schools from Minnesota and Wisconsin: Bethany Lutheran College, Crown College, Martin Luther College, North Central University, Northland College, University of Minnesota Morris, University of Northwestern, and University of Wisconsin-Superior.
