UMAC announces 2021-22 Winter/Spring Academic All-Conference Awards
ST. PAUL, Minn.--- Following the conclusion of the 2021-22 academic year, the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) handed out 596 academic all-conference awards for outstanding performance in the classroom and on the field of play during the winter and spring seasons, it was announced Wednesday. This brings the 2021-22 year total to 1,121 individual awards after a record 525 individuals were honored for the fall semester.

Individuals who earn a 3.5 or better grade point average (GPA) during their respective semesters of competition are recognized with the prestigious honor. The UMAC also recognizes the top team in each sport that records the overall best GPA for its respective semesters. Student-athletes were recognized in the sports of baseball, men's and women's basketball, softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's indoor track and field and men's and women's outdoor track and field.
For the winter and spring segment, the University of Wisconsin-Superior led with the most individuals honored with 104, while Martin Luther College finished with 101 for a yearly-best total of 202 total honorees. Martin Luther had 22 women's outdoor track and field student-athletes recognized for the highest total individuals earning the honor among all teams. Baseball had the most individuals for a single sport earn recognition with 89 awards. Women's basketball was second with 74, and softball was third with 71.
Martin Luther led the team competition earning the top GPA in seven winter/spring sports to bring the school's total to 10 for the 2021-22 academic year. The Knights' women's hoops squad topped all teams nominated with a 3.737 team GPA. The Knights also picked up the top team GPAs in men's basketball (3.551), softball (3.561), men's tennis (3.62), women's tennis (3.668), men's outdoor track and field (3.387) and women's outdoor track and field (3.73).
Crown College earned two of the team awards with top honors in men's indoor track and field (3.204) and women's indoor track and field (3.66). The University of Minnesota Morris claimed the last team award with a 3.43 GPA for baseball.
