UMAC sets record with 525 academic all-conference honors for fall 2021

ST. PAUL, Minn.---The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) awarded a record 525 fall academic all-conference awards to 2021 fall sport student-athletes for excellence in the classroom, it was announced Wednesday. This surpassed the previous record of 524 honorees from the fall of 2019.

Individuals who earn a 3.5 or better grade point average (GPA) or better during their respective semesters of competition are recognized with the prestigious individual honor, while the team with the top GPA in each sport is also recognized. Student-athletes were acknowledged for academic achievement in the sports of men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer and volleyball.
Martin Luther College led all members with a fall-best 102 student-athletes honored 20 women's soccer players honored and 19 from women's cross country. The University of Northwestern had the second-most student-athletes earn recognition with 88.
For the fall awards by sport, volleyball had the top number of players recognized with 102 awards. Volleyball was second with 92 honorees and football tallied 91 honors.
In the team competition, Martin Luther claimed four of the eight awards which are given to the team with the top team GPA for their respective corresponding semesters. The Knights took the top awards including the top overall GPA in volleyball (3.77), as well as women's soccer (3.752), men's soccer (3.428) and football (2.991). The remaining four team awards went to four other institutions with Crown College earning women's cross country (3.75), North Central University in women's golf (3.79), Northwestern for men's golf (3.392) and the University of Wisconsin-Superior in men's cross country (3.438).
