Fall Update |
The Yellowjackets own 61 total points to hold on to their lead from the fall by the narrowest of margins, while the Eagles jumped from third to second with 60.5 points passing up the University of Minnesota Morris (53.5) that fell from second to fourth. Bethany Lutheran College moved in to third (56.5) to also pass the Cougars.
Wisconsin-Superior boasted three regular season championship wins in the fall and added one more with its men's track and field team winning a sixth-straight indoor championship. However, Northwestern piled on the points winning a share of the women's basketball championship and taking the men's title outright. The Eagles also added a second-place finish in men's indoor track and field to put the pressure on the leading Yellowjackets.
Bethany Lutheran increased its season championships total to three with women's hoops sharing the title with Northwestern for a third-straight championship for the Vikings. Additionally, the Vikings added a second-place finish in women's indoor track and field behind a Minnesota Morris squad that repeated as champion to keep the Cougars in the top four.
Martin Luther College remained steady in fifth place with 34 points, while North Central University jumped from a tie for seventh with Crown College into sixth with 29 points. The Storm is just behind in seventh with 27 points while Northland College is eighth with 23.5 points.
The award began in 1996-97 and is named after Mr. Jerome Kruse, a longtime athletic director at the former Northwestern College (Wis.) and Martin Luther. It travels to the full-member institution with the most points accumulated by the place finishes of the college's athletic teams in the final standings of 18 conference sponsored sports.
