"This Week in the UMAC" is a weekly publication of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference that is normally distributed on Mondays throughout the academic year. It features standings, schedules, news and notes, as well as upcoming events from around the conference.

HEADLINES
Game of the Week: Bethany Lutheran at UW-Superior - Men's Basketball

This week's Game of the Week will take place on Saturday, January 23th at 3 p.m. as Bethany Lutheran College travels to the University of Wisconsin-Superior in men's basketball action.

Robertson Receives Merit Award at College Football National Championship
January 21, 2016
Robertson was presented with his award on January 11th, before the College Football National Championship game in Scottsdale, Arizona. 

NEWS AND NOTES
Bethany Lutheran College 
Men’s basketball player, Brandyn Frelix had an impressive showing on Saturday afternoon against UW-Superior. The junior scored 38 points for his team which ranks second all-time in the Bethany record books for most points scored in an individual game.
 
The women’s basketball team defeated St. Scholastica on Friday evening 69-64. This is the first time the Vikings have defeated the Saints twice in one season.
 
Indoor Track and Field competed in the MSU Open with several athletes breaking personal records and school records.

College of St. Scholastica
Men's Basketball extended its home winning streak to nine games after a pair if wins over Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther over the weekend. In the Bethany Lutheran win the Saints scored over 50 points in a half for the sixth time this season and had five players score in double-figures for the fifth time.
 
In Saturday's victory over Martin Luther, the Women's Basketball team was led in scoring by Sam Brennan with 17 points, marking the first time in 12 games someone other than Michala Walther and Brittani Brennan led the team. Speaking of Walther, she has scored in double-figures in nine straight games.
 
Men's Track & Field broke three program records on Saturday at the Twin Ports Invite, hosted by UW-Superior. Jeremy Peterson broke two of the records in the shot put and weight throw. Peterson's weight throw mark, currently ranks fourth in NCAA Division III.
 
Women's Track & Field broke four program records on Saturday at the Twin Ports Invite. The 4x800m, 4x1600m and sprint medley relay teams all set marks as did Casey Hovland in the mile run.

Martin Luther College
MLC freshman T.J. Babinec has been hot from beyond the arc of late, making 20 of his last 35 three-point field goal attempts in the team's last three games. Babinec tied the MLC single-game record with eight three-pointers on January 16 against UMM, and made six in both games last weekend against UWS and CSS. Babinec now has 60 three-pointers this season, four shy of the MLC single-season record of 64, set by Jeff Loberger during the 2002-03 season.
 
Senior Todd Brassow moved into fourth place in MLC men's basketball history in career points over the weekend. Brassow, who earlier in the month became the tenth player in program history to score 1,000 points for his career, now has 1,211 career points. His 25.0 points per game average is currently tenth best in all of Division III.
 
Sophomore women's basketball player Grace Schultz scored a season-high 22 points in the Knights' game at UW-Superior on Friday. That was just one off her career high of 23 points (set last season against Buena Vista), and marked the third time in her career she scored at least 20 points in a game.

University of Minnesota Morris 
Five Cougars competed on Saturday to kickoff the 2016 UMM track season. They group had five top-ten finishes at the MSU Open.
 
Men's basketball won their fifth straight UMAC game, the longest winning streak since winning six in a row in 2013-14. CD Douglas had his tenth 20 point game of the season on Saturday.
 
Four Cougar women's basketball players scored in double figures for the sixth time this season.

University of Northwestern 
The women’s basketball team picked up a pair of wins over the weekend, defeating Finlandia and Northland to move its season mark to 14-4. Jessica Cole turned in a pair of big performances to lead the Eagles, as the sophomore averaged 17.5 points per game in the two victories. She finished the weekend 9-of-14 (64.3 percent) from the floor, 6-of-6 from long range and 11-of-12 (91.7 percent) from the free-throw line.

The men’s basketball team used a balanced attack to defeat Finlandia and Northland over the weekend. Freshman Anderson Bazile Jr.  scored 15 points in 19 minutes of action in the Eagles’ win over the Lions. Will Gisler poured in 18 points to lead Northwestern over Northland in Saturday’s UMAC contest. Kyle Ooms ranks third in the country (Division III) in field-goal percentage (68 percent).

The men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed at the UW-Stout Open last Saturday in Menomonie. The UNW men were led by freshman Brent Wipf, who ran to a second place finish in the 800-meter run, crossing the line in 2:02.16. On the women’s side, Alyssa Arends’ third place finish in the 3,000-meter run paced the Eagles. The senior finished the run in 11:10.97.
