CSS's Bloomquist Named to D3football.com Team of the Week

St. Scholastica junior linebacker Mason Bloomquist (Owatonna, Minn./Owatonna HS ) was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week; it was announced on Tuesday.
UMAC Game of the Week - Crown at Martin Luther - Women's Soccer

This week's UMAC Game of the Week will take place on Friday, September 18 at 4:15 p.m. as Crown College travels to New Ulm to take on Martin Luther College in women's soccer action. Both teams currently own a 0-1 conference record and will look to gain valuable UMAC points in Friday's competition.
NEWS AND NOTES
Bethany Lutheran College
Bethany Lutheran College had a very busy week of athletics with men's and women's soccer, volleyball, cross country, women's tennis, and men's and women's golf all competing.
The Bethany Women's Soccer team earned two wins this past weekend against North Central and Crown. The Vikings are starting to click and come together as a team.Taylor Friehl and Nicole Moldstad both recorded two goals and two assist on the weekend while teammate Bridget Hennen scored three goals and added two assists. Ali Mix added two assist on the weekend of action.
The Men's Soccer squad dropped a game Friday afternoon against North Central and tied Crown on Saturday 2-2 in double overtime. Highlights from the week came from Michael Loguercio who scored two goals with one assist. Jorge Perez also added a goal and Ryan Behmer recorded an assist.
The Volleyball team co-hosted the 2015 UMAC Preview in the Sports and Fitness Center. The Vikings welcomed Crown, Northland, and North Central to the gym for a round robin type event. The Vikings beat Northland Friday night and Crown Saturday morning before dropping a match to North Central Saturday afternoon. Kristen Mielke led the Vikings all weekend by recording 56 kills in three games. Other leaders for the Vikings this weekend included Sarah Haynes, Shelby Sicheneder, Jessica Grimsley, and Alexandra Grejlak.
The Men's and Women's Golf team competed in the Northwestern Invitational. Both teams came home with a second place finish! On the men's side, Brenton Pennells finished 2nd overall in the match by a score of 71 (E). On the women's side, Allie Curtis finished in third with a 90 (+19 while Mackenzie Manthei carded a 94 (+23) placing sixth.
The men's and women's cross country team traveled to St. Olaf to run in the St. Olaf Invitational. The team saw many bright spots on the weekend from many different athletes who have improved their times dramatically from two weeks ago to a year ago. The team is eager to get back on the course this weekend when they travel to New Ulm, Minn. to run at Martin Luther College.
The women's Tennis team opened up their 2015-16 fall portion of the schedule by competing against Wis.-Stout and Ripon college on the campus of Stout. The team consisted of Alicia Kranz, Taylor Nordhausen, Justine Bennett, and Ryana Sadaka.
College of St. Scholastica
Volleyball's Kortney Morrin recorded her 1,000th career kill in her 100th match on Friday against Minnesota Morris.
Women's Soccer saw its 40-game regular season UMAC unbeaten streak come to an end with a 1-0 loss at the University of Northwestern on Saturday. In Tuesday's victory over Northland, CSS allowed more than one goal in a UMAC contest and won for the first time since the 2007 conference opener.
The Men's Soccer team had 50 shots against Northland on Tuesday. The 50 shots are the second-most in a game in program history. On Sunday, the Saints defeated No. 23 St. Thomas 3-2, marking the second straight year CSS has defeated a ranked team on the road.
Football's Chris Gassert became the fourth running back in program history to reach 1,500 career rushing yards in Saturday's victory at Eureka. Quarterback Dakota Paulson also set a program record by completing 27 passes and threw for 357 yards, the fourth-highest total in program history.
Martin Luther College
The men's soccer team continued its hot start to the season with a weekend sweep of Crown and North Central. First-year forward Aaron Swanson leads the Knights with six goals, and he has led an MLC offense that has scored at least three goals in five of its last six games.
Several MLC volleyball players set new career highs in Saturday's 3-2 loss against UMM. Heidi Moldenhauer's 55 assists set a new personal best, while Kira Grev and Jade St. Germaine each set new career highs in kills with 22 and 19, respectively.
Matt Olson passed for 236 yards and two touchdowns in the football team's 43-33 loss at Crown on Saturday. That was the most yards passing by an MLC quarterback since Luke Rothe threw for 399 yards against Maranatha Baptist on
September 7, 2013. Olson also rushed for 86 yards and one touchdown, giving him at least one passing and rushing touchdown in all three games this season.
First-year running back Tim Keller ran for a team-best 107 yards on 21 carries in Saturday's football game at Crown. It was the second time in three games that Keller has gone over 100 yards rushing. Keller and fellow first-year running back T.J. Babinec each scored their first career touchdowns in the game, as well.
University of Minnesota Morris
The men's golf team shot a season best 314 at the Northwestern Invite.
Marissa Ekness set a new career high with 27 kills vs Martin Luther.
Broke Decker set a new career high with 54 assists vs Northwestern.
Molly Hancuh tied a school record with four goals in a match, doing so against Martin Luther.
Univeristy of Northwestern
The UNW football team shutout Minnesota Morris Saturday behind a stout defense – which only allowed 128 yards of total offense and forced five turnovers. Jordan Joseph scored a pair of second half touchdowns – the first of his career – to lead the Eagle offense. Placekicker Ben Lyons went 2-for-2 on field attempts, connecting from 42 and 33 yards out, while also going 3-for-3 on PAT’s. Ben Greener was in on eight stops, while Austin Stubbs, Grant Stroud, Daniel Stratton and Andrew Smith all recorded picks.
The UNW volleyball team went 4-1 over the weekend, including a 3-1 performance at the UMAC Preview Tournament. Lindsey Peterson, who had three double-doubles on the week, continues to be dominant for the Eagles, as the sophomore had 64 digs, while also tallying 90 digs.
The men’s and women’s cross country teams competed at the St. Olaf Invitational over the weekend in Northfield. Competing against some of the top teams from across the region, both the men and women ran to 18
th place finishes Saturday. Alyssa Arends led the women in the 6K race with her time of 25:53.8 , while Wil Maki paced the men’s squad with a time of 28:28.9.
The men’s and women’s golf teams both placed sixth at the UNW Invitational last Wednesday at Gross National Golf Course in Minneapolis. Naomi Black tied for eighth on the women’s side after carding a 96, while the men were led by Mac Saby and Michael Vowels who both shot 77’s.
The women’s soccer team picked up a historic win Saturday, knocking off St. Scholastica, 1-0. Allie Franzen scored the lone goal in the contest to hand Scholastica its first loss in its last 40 conference games. The squad finished the week 3-0 after also taking down Bethany Lutheran (4-1) and North Central (1-0).
The men’s soccer team finished the week with a 1-1 record after the Eagles took down North Central, 2-0, before falling to St. Scholastica 4-0. Matthew McCann and Mateusz Gralinksi scored a goal each in the Eagles shutout of visiting North Central. Turner Main recorded his second shutout of the season in goal in UNW’s win of NCU.
