MINNEAPOLIS – Northwestern College won its first UMAC Men's Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon, barely edging the College of St. Scholastica in a postseason event that came down to one match.
Keagen Blancke and Brian Lindberg faced off in the No. 3 singles match, not knowing how important their final result would be until the two were halfway into their second set. Blancke won the first set 7-6 (7-4) before the second set went into a tiebreaker as well, ending with Blancke on top 7-6 (7-2).
Northwestern finished with 23 points in the tournament, just one point ahead of St. Scholastica, who had claimed the previous four men's postseason tournaments. Martin Luther College and North Central University tied for third place in the tournament with nine points apiece.
