ST. PAUL, Minn.-- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced their Athlete of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s tennis. The awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications staff and selected each week by the latter group.
Baseball Player of the Week
Vincent Curzie, So, Bethany Lutheran, INF
Scottsdale, Ariz./Pinnacle
Curzie helped Bethany win a four-game series at Sewanee 3-1. In three games, Curzie hit .600 with six hits, including one triple, two home runs, three RBI, one walk, and five runs. His slugging was 1.400 and his on-base percentage was .636. In the field, Curzie made two putouts and two assists with no errors.
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Aidan Berg, So, Martin Luther
West Bend, Wis./Lakeside Lutheran
Berg pitched four innings of shutout baseball in a 7-5 victory over Hamline on Friday. The sophomore struck out seven batters while on the mound. Berg also hit a home run and finished with two RBI at the plate, in just six at-bats this week.
Softball Player of the Week
Maria Lilienthal, Sr, Crown, 1B
Pendleton, Ore./Pendleton
Lilienthal went 7-15 in four games over the weekend as the Polars went 3-1. These 7 hits resulted in 12 RBI's, including a double. She also scored three times and walked twice in these four games. Her .526 average on the season is tied for second in the conference, and her 13 RBI's is second but just one behind the lead despite 10 less at bats.
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Emily Meyer, Jr, Bethany Lutheran
Swea City, Iowa/North Union
Meyer pitched in both games to start Bethany's spring break trip to Florida, going 1-1. Against the defending national champion Trine, Meyer went all seven innings, allowing five earned runs on eight hits. Meyer then earned the win against Adrian, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing one run on two hits with eight strikeouts.
Men’s Tennis North Division Athlete of the Week
Sam Majerus, So, Northwestern
River Falls, Wis./River Falls
Majerus was the lone Eagle to win a singles match vs. Macalester on Saturday, taking down his opponent 1-6, 6-4, 10-5 at No. 5. He now holds a 4-4 singles record in 2026, and a 5-2 doubles record at No. 1.
Men’s Tennis South Division Athlete of the Week
Jesus Sota Bossa, Sr, Principia
Cartagena, Colombia
Jesus went 2-1 at #1 singles and 1-2 at #1 doubles this past week. In singles, he defeated the #1 from Illinois College 6-2, 6-4 and the #1 from Franklin 6-2, 7-6. His only loss was a close battle with the top player from Saint Mary as he fell in a third set super tiebreaker 4-6, 6-1, 7-10.
Women’s Tennis North Division Athlete of the Week
Mariah Mireles, Jr, Minnesota Morris
Saint James, Minn./Saint James
Mireles led the Cougars to total six game wins. Across both matches, Mireles was able to take at least a game in every set. In singles play, she won two games against the No. 2 UW-River Falls, and against Div. II Bemidji State she won four games in the second position. In doubles, she added two more game wins against BSU.
Women’s Tennis South Division Athlete of the Week
Mafe Quintero, Jr, Principia
Bogota, Colombia
Mafe went 2-0 at #1 singles, only losing a combined total of two games. She defeated the top player from Saint Mary 6-1, 6-1 and the top player from Franklin 6-0, 6-0. At #1 doubles, she and her partner were edged 7-5.
