UMAC Athletes of the Week: March 9-15, 2026

ST. PAUL, Minn.-- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced their Athlete of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of baseball, softball, and men’s and women’s tennis. The awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications staff and selected each week by the latter group.
 
Baseball Player of the Week
Dawson Barson, Sr, North Central, INF
North Logan, Utah/Sky View
 
Barson had a solid week in Florida, leading the Rams with 11 hits while batting .393 with 6 runs, 6 RBI, 3 doubles, and 3 walks across eight games.
 
Baseball Pitcher of the Week
Niles Monroe, Fr, UW-Superior
Belleville, Wis./Belleville
 
Monroe dazzled in his first collegiate start on the mound. Against Fitchburg State he threw six innings of shutout baseball, allowing just one hit and striking out 10 for his first victory as a Yellowjacket.
 
Softball Player of the Week
Peyton Bennett, So, UW-Superior, OF
Harrisburg, S.D./Harrisburg
 
Bennett paced Superior during last week's action at The Spring Coast Games, helping her squad go 7-3. Starting in all 10 games, she hit .500 (17-34), scoring eight runs while clubbing six doubles, two triples, two home runs, and going 6-7 in stolen bases.
 
Softball Pitcher of the Week
Emma Morrissey, Jr, Northwestern
Wasilla, Alaska/Colony
 
Morrissey delivered an impressive week for the Eagles in their final games in Florida. She entered as relief for 3 and 2 innings against William Peace and Lake Forest, respectively. She only surrendered 2 hits and 1 run, while striking out 3 and not allowing any earned runs. In her first collegiate start against Curry College, she pitched a shutout for all 7 innings. On the week, she had a 0.00 ERA to lower her season ERA to 0.45.
 
Men’s Tennis North Division Athlete of the Week
Griffen Jarchow, Sr, Northwestern
Luverne, Minn./Luverne
 
Jarchow went 5-5 in Florida, winning 4 of his 5 No. 2 doubles matches and 1 of his 5 No. 2 singles bouts. The singles win came against 5-2 Albion College, when the senior swept his opponent 6-0, 6-0. His lone doubles loss nearly flipped, as he and Jacob Petrick lost in a tiebreak.
 
Women’s Tennis North Division Athlete of the Week
Kate Jonas, Jr, UW-Superior
Annandale, Minn./Annandale
                                                                     
Jonas recorded a team-leading 8-2 overall record as the Yellowjackets took on various opponents in the Sunshine State. In singles, she displayed a 3-2 record before winning all five doubles matches alongside Anouk Bluemm.
