ST. PAUL, Minn.-- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced their Athlete of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball. The awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications staff and selected each week by the latter group.
Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week
Landen Thomer, So, UW-Superior, G
Mosinee, Wis./Mosinee
Thomer was a major contributor to the Yellowjackets' two victories to conclude nonconference play. At home against Saint Mary's on Dec. 29, he shot 75 percent from the field for 12 points and had 13 rebounds. Later in the week against Macalester, the sophomore wing scored a career-high 17 points and garnered 12 rebounds on the road. Thomer currently ranks fourth in scoring for Superior while leading the rebounding efforts.
Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week
Maddy Grove, Jr, Minnesota Morris, G
Morris, Minn./Morris Area
Grove led the Cougars at the BSN Winter Classic to earn All-Tournament Team honors. Against two ranked opponents, Grove totaled 30 points with 20 against (RV)/25 Ripon. She also added three rebounds, two assists, two blocks, and two steals.
