ST. PAUL-- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced their Athlete of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s golf, men’s and women’s soccer, and volleyball. The awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications staff and selected each week by the latter group.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Avah Kraushaar, Sr, North Central
Eveleth, Minn./Eveleth Gilbert
Kraushaar led the Rams at the River Town Invite, hosted by UW-River Falls, with a 6K time of 29:34.7.
Football Offensive Athlete of the Week
Brady Turriff, So, Martin Luther, QB
Lancaster, S.C./Sun Valley
Turriff led MLC in the 34-0 win over Luther College on Saturday. The sophomore gunslinger completed 24-of-32 passes (75 percent) for 243 yards and two touchdowns.
Football Defensive Athlete of the Week
Andrew Esmay, Jr, Martin Luther, DE
Temple, Texas/Luther Prep
Andrew recorded six tackles, a forced fumble, and 2.5 sacks in the 34-0 win against Luther College in the Knights' home opener on Saturday.
Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week
Rudy Criner, Gr, Crown, DB
San Antonio, Texas/Cornerstone Christian
Criner totaled 141 yards on five kickoff returns, which included a 40-yard return.
Men’s Golf Athlete of the Week
Jakob Swanson, Sr, Northwestern
Apple Valley, Minn./Eastview
Swanson won the UMAC Preview in a playoff after firing an even-par 72 that included three birdies, while also helping UNW tie for the team title. Earlier in the week, the senior played well at the Firebird Fall Classic, with his scores of 78 (+6) and 73 (+1) across the two days of competition.
Women’s Golf Athlete of the Week
Morgan Eckman, Jr, Northwestern
Jordan, Minn./Jordan
Eckman took home medalist honors at the UMAC Preview with a score of 80 (+8). Her efforts also led Northwestern to a win as a team, 13 shots clear of second place.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week
Aaron Mackall, Sr, Minnesota Morris, F
Nerstrand, Minn./Woodbury
Mackall has continued to lead Minnesota Morris offensively. After the Cougars trailed 2-0 against Concordia (Minn.), Mackall netted two goals for UMM to tie the game that would later finish at 3-3. In the following game at UW-Stout, Mackall scored the lone goal for his UMAC-leading seventh goal and second game-winner of the season. The senior finished the week with three goals on six shots on target.
Men’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week
Nick Isensee, Sr, Minnesota Morris, GK
Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee
Isensee finished with a record of 1-0-1 over the week. The senior goalkeeper made eight saves against Concordia (Minn.) to help preserve the tie. In the following game at UW-Stout, Isensee made 10 saves for his second shutout of the season in the 1-0 victory.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week
Priscilla Boehm, So, Martin Luther, F
La Mesa, Calif./California Lutheran
Boehm had a productive day on Thursday in a 2-2 tie against Waldorf on the road. Boehm contributed to two late goals to tie it up in the final 15 minutes of action to force the draw. The sophomore scored a goal on a penalty kick and then was credited with an assist in the 83rd minute on the second goal. Boehm finished with three shots on goal.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week
Rachel Fuller, Jr, Crown, GK
Becker, Minn./Becker
Fuller totaled 14 saves in the Polars’ lone contest of the week.
Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week
Maddie Meyer, Sr, Bethany Lutheran, MB
Shakopee, Minn./Shakopee
Meyer hit a blistering .491 on the attack last week as Bethany went 2-1. Meyer totaled 40 kills (3.33 per set) and had two matches without committing an error. She had 11 kills on 26 attempts (0 errors) in a five-set loss at Carleton on 9/10. Meyer then total 12 kills on 27 attempts (2 errors) in a sweep over Caltech. She finished the weekend with her best performance of 17 kills on 68 attempts (0 errors) for a .607 attack percentage in a 3-1 win over Simpson. Meyer also totaled eight service aces, 11 blocks, and eight digs throughout the week.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Addeson Jenniges, So, Northwestern
Walnut Grove, Minn./Westbrook
Jenniges led UNW in assists over the weekend at the Trinity National Invitational in San Antonio with 115 (9.58 per set), including 47 vs. (RV) Whitworth and 46 in just 4 sets against #12 Trinity. She also had 23 digs and an ace on the weekend, including 13 digs against Whitworth.
Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week
Savanna Hering, So, UW-Superior, DS/L
Superior, Wis./Superior
Hering logged 53 digs on the weekend as the Yellowjackets garnered a 3-1 record at the UW-La Crosse Tournament.
