MANKATO, Minn. – The opening games of the 2025 UMAC Softball Tournament took place on Thursday at Thomas Park in Mankato, Minnesota. The No. 2 University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets took on the No. 3 University of Northwestern Eagles while the No. 1 Bethany Lutheran College Vikings battled the No. 4 University of Minnesota Morris Cougars.

GAME 1: UW-Superior 4, Northwestern 3

UW-Superior opened their tournament play with an extra-innings victory over the Northwestern Eagles. UNW jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the third, but the Yellowjackets responded with a pair of RBI hits by Zoe Thompson and Ellie Macal.

Northwestern tied the game up at 2-2 with a sac fly in the third, but UW-Superior retook the lead in the bottom half of the frame on a fielder’s choice.

UNW tied the game again in the sixth on a home run by Kate Trump. This time the Eagles held the Yellowjackets scoreless in their half of the inning, and a scoreless seventh sent the game to extras.

UW-Superior won the game in the eighth as Bella Garley hit a high-hopping chopper to third that proved difficult to field and beat out the throw to first just as the winning run crossed the plate.

GAME 2: Bethany Lutheran 2, Minnesota Morris 0

Bethany Lutheran earned a 2-0 shutout victory over Minnesota Morris in game two of the conference softball tournament.

The sole runs of the game were scored on a two-out infield single by Bryn Weidner, who beat out a grounder to short to allow two runs to score, giving Bethany Lutheran the lead.

That lead would prove to be enough as Emily Meyer pitched a complete game shoutout for the Vikings, allowing just two hits and four walks while striking out four.
