ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced the recipients of their 2025 men’s tennis awards on Tuesday. The awards are nominated and voted on by the UMAC men’s tennis head coaches within each division.
Igor Guetten Chaves of the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets was named the UMAC North Division Player of the Year. The junior won nine No. 1 singles matches this season. He also won 12 doubles matches with five wins at No. 1 and seven at No. 2.
Andres Sanchez of the Greenville University Panthers was named the UMAC South Division Player of the Year. The senior went 18-4 at No. 1 singles to lead the conference. He also won 15 doubles matches with seven victories at No. 1 and eight at No. 2.
Caleb Swigart of the University of Northwestern Eagles was named the UMAC North Division Rookie of the Year. The freshman won 13 singles matches and nine doubles matches this season.
Colton Hulme of the Greenville Panthers was named the UMAC South Division Rookie of the Year. The freshman won 13 singles matches with two No. 2 wins and 11 at No. 3. In doubles, he won three matches at No. 3.
CeeJay Schaffner was named the UMAC North Division Coach of the Year. The UW-Superior head coach led the Yellowjackets to win the North Division Championship with an undefeated conference record.
Brett Brannon was named the UMAC South Division Coach of the Year. The Greenville head coach led the Panthers to a 21-7 record and a South Division Championship
The Northwestern Eagles and the Westminster College Blue Jays won the team sportsmanship awards for the North and South Divisions respectively. The accolade is selected by the UMAC coaches and awarded to the team that best represents sportsmanship throughout the entire season.
