ST. PAUL, Minn.-- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced their Athlete of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball. The awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications staff and selected each week by the latter group.
Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week
Japheth Nyamari, Sr, Northwestern, G
Anoka, Minn./Anoka
Nyamari had another strong week, averaging 20 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game in two games against MIAC opponents. The senior is averaging 25.6 points and 7.4 rebounds per game for the season, ranking first and sixth, respectively, in the UMAC.
Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week
Maddy Grove, Jr, Minnesota Morris, G

Maddy Grove had a milestone week reaching 1,000 career points in the win at Trinity Bible. Over the three games she totaled 55 points, averaging 18.33 per game. Starting the week, Grove scored 17 points against Div. II Bemidji State, and she also added three steals and a block. The following day, she went off at TBC for 28 points, a season-high. Grove ended the week with five rebounds, nine steals, one block and one assist.
