ST. PAUL, Minn.-- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced their Athlete of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball and football. The awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications staff and selected each week by the latter group.
Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week
Adam Loberger, So, Martin Luther, F
Appleton, Wis./Fox Valley Lutheran
Loberger averaged 28 ppg, 8.7 rpg and shot 44.3 percent from the field in three games this past week for the Knights. Loberger also went 26-of-30 from the free throw line (87 percent). Loberger's 29 points against St. Mary's on Tuesday gave the Knights an 88-81 win over the MIAC school.
Women’s Basketball Athlete of the Week
Maddy Grove, Jr, Minnesota Morris, G
Morris, Minn./Morris Area
The Cougars played in three games over the week with Grove leading the team with 67 points, averaging 22.3 points per game. The Morris native helped rally UMM against Macalester with 21 points, 15 of them in the second half, to help secure a 76-62 victory. Her best game of the week was against St. Catherine where she scored 28 points while shooting 9-13 from the field, 2-2 from behind the arc and 8-9 at the free throw line. Grove ended the week with 14 rebounds, eight steals, two blocks, and two assists.
Football Offensive Athlete of the Week
Jamarrius Courtney, So, Crown, QB
Minneapolis, Minn./Chaska
Courtney totaled 137 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns. He also threw for 1 TD as Crown took the victory to win its first ever conference championship.
Football Defensive Athlete of the Week
Jeremiah Belizaire, So, Westminster, DL
Miami Gardens, Fla./North Miami Beach
Belizaire had 4 sacks, 7 tackles for loss, and 10 total tackles in the Blue Jays' win over Northwestern.
Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week
Nathan Tomlinson, So, Crown, DB
Blanco, Texas/Blanco
Tomlinson had an 83-yard kickoff return to go along with 9 tackles.
