Crown wins 2025 UMAC Football Championship

ST. PAUL, Minn.— Crown College (7-3 overall, 6-1 UMAC) won the 2025 UMAC Football Championship on Saturday afternoon in a 38-20 victory over Greenville University (4-5, 3-4 UMAC). The conference title is the first in program history for the Polars.

On the third play of its first possession, Crown scored on a 42-yard touchdown pass from Jamarrius Courtney to Carteyae Gordon.  

The Polars doubled their lead on their next drive as Courtney punched it in from one-yard out for the score.

Crown added to its margin once more on its second possession of the second quarter. It was Courtney again taking it in from one yard away.

The Polars’ defense had a pick-six right before halftime as Wyatt Kile picked off the pass and returned it for the score to make it 28-0 at the break.

Crown got the ball to start the second half and after an 83-yard kickoff return, Courtney completed his rushing hat trick with his third TD of the game on the ground, this one on a seven-yard run.

The Panthers got on the scoreboard on their ensuing drive as Terrel Graves had a 36-yard touchdown run.

The Polars capped a 17 play, 83-yard scoring drive with a 26-yard field goal from Reichen Hoekstra to make it 38-7.

Greenville scored 13 points in the fourth quarter on a 21-yard touchdown run from Graves and a four-yard run from Kile.

Courtney was 2-5 with one TD through the air and had 137 yards on 16 carries for three TDs on the ground for Crown. Nathan Tomlinson led the defense with nine tackles.

Graves had a team-high 135 rushing yards for two TDs for the Panthers.

With the win, the Polars earn the automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs. They will learn their First-round opponent and game location during the selection show Sunday at 4 p.m.
