ST. PAUL, Minn.-- The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced their Athlete of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s soccer, and volleyball. The awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications staff and selected each week by the latter group.
Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
David Tuttle, Fr, Crown
Cloquet, Minn./Homeschool
Tuttle took second place at the NCCAA Regional with a time of 28:15.1 in the 8K to lead the Crown runners.
Women’s Cross Country Runner of the Week
Ella Dufault, Jr, Crown
Waseca, Minn./Waseca
Dufault led the way for the Polars at the NCCAA Regional Race, winning the individual title with a time of 18:32.1 in the 5K race.
Football Offensive Athlete of the Week
Terrel Graves, So, Greenville, RB
Roxana, Ill./Roxana
Graves set the school record with a 99-yard run to seal the win for the Panthers. He finished the day with a personal best of 291 yards rushing on only 23 carries averaging over 12 yards per attempt. He also scored 3 touchdowns on the day.
Football Defensive Athlete of the Week
Jayden Goodwin, Sr, Northwestern, LB
New Richmond, Wis./Saint Croix Central
Goodwin led the team in tackles (10) and tackles-for-loss (2.0) in Saturday’s win. He also flipped the momentum of the game with a leaping interception in the 3rd quarter, the first of four picks for UNW in the second half.
Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week
Micah Koschnitzke, Sr, Martin Luther, K
Waukesha, Wis./Wisconsin Lutheran
Koschnitzke went 5-for-5 from PAT attempts in MLC's 38-28 win at Westminster on Saturday. The senior also had seven kickoffs for 400 yards and connected on a 20-yard field goal in the second quarter. From the linebacker position, Koschnitzke also recorded seven tackles and one PBU.
Men’s Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week
Seth Davidson, Fr, UW-Superior, F
Sartell, Minn./Sartell
Davidson garnered his first collegiate hat trick this past week against North Central. His three goals and an assist landed him seven points before collecting another assist versus Minnesota Morris for a weekly total of eight. Davidson has aided Superior to ranking second in scoring offense across NCAA Division III (3.56 goals per match).
Men’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week
Jamie van Wijland, Jr, Bethany Lutheran, D
Hoorn, Netherlands/Oscar Romero
van Wijland helped Bethany go 2-0 during the week with shutout wins over UM-Morris (4-0) and North Central (1-0). Against the Cougars, van Wijland scored his first goal of the season on a penalty kick while limiting the opposition to just three shots. Against the Rams, van Wijland and the defense allowed just one shot on goal.
Women’s Soccer Offensive Athlete of the Week
Elena Luján Rubio, Sr, Bethany Lutheran, M
Alborache, Spain/IES La Hoya de Buñol
Luján Rubio set the Bethany women's soccer program record for career points after a four-goal, one-assist performance in a 9-1 win over North Central on Saturday. Luján Rubio passed Madison Perry (2017-21) for most career points in program history, now with 140 points on 56 goals and 28 assists. Luján Rubio started the week with three goals in a 4-1 win over UM-Morris on Tuesday. She finished the week with seven goals and an assist for 15 points. Luján Rubio leads the UMAC with a career-high 19 goals and 46 points this season, including four hat tricks.
Women’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week
Katelynn Bills, Bethany Lutheran
Brandon, SD/Brandon Valley
Bills played in key role in Bethany going 2-0 during the week with decisive wins over UM-Morris (4-1) and North Central (9-1). Bills played all 90 minutes in both games, limiting opponents to one goal per game and 11 total shots on goal.
Volleyball Offensive Athlete of the Week
Makenna Hohbein, So, UW-Superior, OH
Holdingford, Minn./Holdingford
Hohbein brought her kill total to 365 after a trio of matches this week. She added 10 versus St. Scholastica before posting 15 and 13 more against Martin Luther and Bethany Lutheran, respectively. Hohbein currently ranks 10th in total kills in NCAA Division III.
Volleyball Setter of the Week
Addeson Jenniges, So, Northwestern
Walnut Grove, Minn./Westbrook
Jenniges was consistent all week, recording 28, 28 and 27 assists in three conference sweeps to arrive at her total of 83 (9.22 per set). The sophomore also totaled 15 digs, 3 blocks and 1 ace on the week, and leads the UMAC in assists per set at 10.44. She is also top 10 in Division III in assists per set.
Volleyball Defensive Athlete of the Week
Savanna Hering, So, UW-Superior, DS/L
Superior, Wis./Superior
Hering compiled 48 digs throughout last week's contests, helping the Yellowjackets to a pair of UMAC victories heading into the final stretch of conference play.
