ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced their Athlete of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of men's and women's basketball. The awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications staff and selected each week by the latter group.
MEN'S BASKETBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Reid Johnson, Senior, UW-Superior Yellowjackets
Chatfield, Minn. / Chatfield
- Johnson put together two massive outings to open UMAC play. In the opener against North Central, he saw 34 minutes coming off the bench and put up a career-best 33 points. He shot 61.1 percent from the field while adding seven three pointers, boosting the 'Jackets to an 89-87 win. Johnson shined once again Saturday, as the senior guard logged 30 points while adding seven rebounds to defeat Bethany Lutheran 84-80.
WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Lexi Hagen, Senior, Northwestern Eagles
Jordan, Minn. / Jordan
- Hagen dominated for the Eagles in both conference wins against Bethany and North Central. She notched two double-doubles averaging 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds over the two games. Hagen finished the week 52% from the field on 15-29 shooting and 50% from behind the arc. The senior leads the Eagles in points and rebounds per game.
The UMAC is an NCAA Division III member comprised of eight full-time member schools from Minnesota and Wisconsin: Bethany Lutheran College, Crown College, Martin Luther College, North Central University, Northland College, University of Minnesota Morris, University of Northwestern, and University of Wisconsin-Superior.
