UMAC Student-Athletes Set Academic All-Conference Records with 754 Winter/Spring Awards, 1,312 Total Awards

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) awarded a record 754 academic all-conference awards to 2023-24 winter and spring sport student-athletes for excellence in the classroom, it was announced Wednesday. This surpassed the previous record of 647 honorees from the winter/spring of 2022-23.
 
In the 2023-24 academic year, UMAC student-athletes set a new record by earning 1,312 total academic all-conference awards combined from fall, winter, and spring. This surpasses the previous record of 1,149 awards set in 2022-23.

Individuals who earn a 3.5 or better grade point average (GPA) or better during their respective semesters of competition are recognized with the prestigious individual honor, while the team with the top GPA in each sport is also recognized. Winter/spring student-athletes were acknowledged for academic achievement in the sports of baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s indoor track & field, men’s and women’s outdoor track & field, softball, and men’s and women’s tennis.
 
The University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets led all members with a winter/spring-best 137 student-athletes honored. The Martin Luther College Knights had the second-most student-athletes earn recognition with 113 honorees. The University of Northwestern Eagles were third with 105 winter/spring academic award winners.
 
For the full 2023-24 academic year, Martin Luther led all members with 209 total academic all-conference awards. Wisconsin-Superior followed in second with 202 total honorees. Northwestern was third with 190 award winners.
 
This winter/spring, baseball had the most players recognized with 109 awards. Softball had the second-most award recipients with 89 honorees. Women’s outdoor track & field was third with 87 award winners.

Martin Luther and the Crown College Polars tied for the most team awards this winter/spring which are given to the team with the top team GPA for their respective corresponding semesters. The Knights won the team award for softball (3.68), women’s basketball (3.85), and women’s indoor track & field (3.70). The Polars earned the team award for women’s outdoor track & field (3.69), women’s tennis (3.81), and tied for the award title in men’s basketball (3.52) with the North Central University Rams.
