UMAC Players of the Week: March 11-17, 2024

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced its Player of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of baseball, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, and men’s and women’s track and field for the week of March 11-17, 2024. The UMAC Player of the Week awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications/sports information staff and selected each week by the latter group. 
 
BASEBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Rhys Dewick, Graduate Student, Crown College
Sydney, Australia / John Therry Catholic
- Dewick totaled 15 hits on 37 at bats as he totaled 12 RBI's, scored 11 runs, and totaled 3 home runs, 2 doubles, and 1 triple.
- He added 17 putouts and 1 assist.
 
BASEBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Zach Romans, Freshman, University of Wisconsin-Superior
Saint Michael, Minn. / Saint Michael
- Romans put together two fine performances during the Yellowjackets' spring break trip.
- Pitching against William Paterson, he pitched 4.1 innings while striking out ten.
                                                  
SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Allison Terry, Sophomore, University of Northwestern
Blaine, Minn. / Blaine
- Terry set the tone at the top of the lineup all week long for the Eagles.
- She had a base hit in all five games UNW played this past week.
- Went 10-19 and scored a remarkable seven runs in 5 games.
- Had six stolen bases on the week, including an incredible performance against Beloit where she stole five bases in a single game.
- Added a double and did not strikeout in 19 at bats.
 
SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Skyla Bristol, Freshman, University of Minnesota Morris
Granite Falls, Wash. / Snohomish
- Bristol had another big week of action in the circle for Minnesota Morris, pitching 25.0 innings across five appearances.
- Four of those were starts and three were complete games, while she earned the save in another appearance.
- For the week, she posted a 0.84 ERA and a 3-1 record including two shutouts.
- She had 36 strikeouts and held opponents to a .185 batting average.
- Of the nine runs she allowed, just three were earned.
 
MEN’S TENNIS NORTH DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Darin Rupp, Senior, University of Northwestern
Sioux Falls, S.D. / Roosevelt
- Rupp went 4-1 in singles play last week in Florida.
- He also picked up a pair of doubles wins with Carson Haack as the Eagles improved to 10-3 in 2024.
 
WOMEN’S TENNIS NORTH DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Analise Marquardt, Junior, University of Northwestern
Parkers Prairie, Minn. / Parkers Prairie
- Marquardt was lights out in Florida, going 9-1 as the Eagles won 4 of their 5 matches in the Sunshine State.
- She went 4-1 on the week in singles play.
- The junior teamed with Elise Jarchow to go a perfect 5-0 in doubles matches on the week.
 
MEN’S TENNIS SOUTH DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Andres Sanchez, Junior, Greenville University
Chiapas, Mexico / Chiapas
- Andres won all four of his singles matches at #1 singles in Hilton Head Island, SC.
- He defeated a 10 UTR player in straight sets.
- He also won 3 of his 4 doubles matches on the week.
- Sanchez is now on a nine-match winning streak.
 
WOMEN’S TENNIS SOUTH DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Lanie Carder, Freshman, Greenville University
Flora, Ill. / Flora
- Lanie posted a record of 3-1 in singles at the #3 spot.
- She also had success on the doubles court with a record of 3-1 at #2 doubles.
 
MEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Will Schorr, Senior, University of Wisconsin-Superior
Superior, Wis. / Superior Senior
- Schorr had a strong outing at the Betty S. Rogers Spring Break Invitational over the weekend, as he was a member who shattered the 4x200-meter record with a time of 1:30.42.
- Additionally, he picked up a top-ten finish in the 100-meter dash.
- On Saturday he set a school record in the 4x100 meter dash, finishing with a time of 43.38.
- The 4x200 time was the best time since 2010 and the 4x100 time was bested by the previous time set in 1989.
 
WOMEN’S OUTDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Summer Hesseldahl, Freshman, University of Wisconsin-Superior
International Falls, Minn. / Falls
- Hesseldahl finished the Spring Break Invite with a victory in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing with a time of 1:19.25.
- She also was part of the 4x200 relay team who finished second (1:55.08) over the break.
 
MEN’S OUTDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Nate Ohman, Senior, University of Wisconsin-Superior
Lake Nebagamon, Wis. / Northwestern
- Ohman continues to post strong performances for UWS.
- Over the weekend he won the hammer throw with a mark of 47.73 meters on Friday and earned the championship spot in the shot put Saturday (15 meters).
 
WOMEN’S OUTDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Sydney Cox, Sophomore, University of Wisconsin-Superior
- Cox picked up two top-five finishes at the Betty S. Rogers Spring Break Invite over the weekend.
- She snagged a third-place finish in the hammer throw with a mark of 31.32 meters while placing fifth in the shot put with a heave of 8.97 meters.
