UMAC Athletes of the Week: October 7-13, 2024

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced its Athlete of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of football, volleyball, and men's and women's soccer. The awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications staff and selected each week by the latter group.
 
FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Sivert Klefsaas, Junior, Northwestern Eagles
Motley, Minn. / Staples-Motley
- Klefsaas had a monster day to lead UNW to a 34-14 win at Greenville. The junior gained 171 yards of total offense and scored 4 total touchdowns. He ran for 128 yards and 3 scores, adding 43 yards and a TD through the air.
 
FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Chayce Meyer, Junior, Minnesota Morris Cougars
Osakis, Minn. / Osakis
- Meyer was crucial for the Cougars in their win over Westminster on Saturday. He totaled up 5 tackles with 2.5 being tackles for loss. He had two sacks on the day. Meyer as had a fumble recovery that resulted in him running 88 yards for a touchdown.
 
FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Dominic Borges, Junior, Northwestern Eagles
Tualatin, Ore. / Tualatin
- Borges made 4 of his 5 extra point attempts in Saturday's win at Greenville and averaged 52.1 yards per kickoff.
 
VOLLEYBALL OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Sydney Smith, Sophomore, UW-Superior Yellowjackets
Milltown, Wis. / Unity
- Smith ended last week's conference matches with 19 kills and an attack percentage of .431, aiding the Yellowjackets to victories against Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther. 
 
VOLLEYBALL SETTER OF THE WEEK
Abby Distad, Freshman, Bethany Lutheran Vikings
Kasson, Minn. / Kasson-Mantorville
- Distad had 46 assists with 7.67 assists per set in two matches for the Vikings.
 
VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jenna Anderson, Senior, UW-Superior Yellowjackets
Bemidji, Minn. / Bemidji
- Anderson led the defensive efforts in both UMAC matches last week. She accumulated 24 digs versus Bethany Lutheran, while adding 14 more against Martin Luther in two Yellowjacket victories. 
 
MEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Jake Kidd, Junior, UW-Superior Yellowjackets
Superior, Wis. / Superior
- Kidd led the Yellowjackets' offensive efforts last week, facing Crown and Minnesota Morris in UMAC play. He fired two goals, including the game-winner, in a 3-0 win against Crown before adding two more goals and an assist versus Minnesota Morris, as UWS defeated the Cougars 8-1 during the first match played at Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium. 

MEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Rodrigo Chavez, Freshman, Northland LumberJacks
Miami, Fla. / COHEA
- Chavez had a monster week in net for the LumberJacks. Against Northwestern he made 18 saves to keep the score level at one and give Northland its first conference point of the season. In the following game, he made nine more saves to help the Jacks draw 1-1 with Martin Luther. 
 
WOMEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Niya Wilson, Senior, UW-Superior Yellowjackets
Superior, Wis. / Superior
- Wilson had an explosive week on the pitch. She scored a goal and tallied an assist in a 4-0 win over Crown before scoring the Yellowjackets' lone goal against Macalester. During the first women's soccer match at Superior Choice Credit Union Stadium, she notched a hat trick and an assist in an 8-0 victory over Minnesota Morris, finishing the week with 12 total points.
 
WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Brenna Mattson, Senior, UW-Superior Yellowjackets
Cloquet, Minn. / Cloquet
- The UMAC's reigning Defensive Player of the Year fared well last week. Mattson started all three matches and played a combined 209 minutes, spearheading the Yellowjackets' efforts in shutting out both conference opponents and allowing just two goals in a non-conference match.
 
 
The UMAC is an NCAA Division III member comprised of eight full-time member schools from Minnesota and Wisconsin: Bethany Lutheran College, Crown College, Martin Luther College, North Central University, Northland College, University of Minnesota Morris, University of Northwestern, and University of Wisconsin-Superior.
