ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced its Player of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball for the week of January 1-7, 2024. The UMAC Player of the Week awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications/sports information staff and selected each week by the latter group.
MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Dominik Bangu, Junior, Bethany Lutheran College
Mankato, Minn. / Mankato East / Grand View
- Bangu had a big week to lead the Vikings to a pair of wins.
- The junior first put up 17 points and 14 rebounds on Tuesday in a win over Central, including seven points in the final two minutes to help the Vikings to a 77-73 win.
- He then posted a career high on Saturday afternoon when he scored 27 points and added seven rebounds while going 7-of-8 from beyond the arc in a win over Martin Luther.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
McKenzie Latzke, Senior, Crown College
Gaylord, Minn. / Sibley East
- Latzke broke Crown’s record for made threes in a game with eight against Minnesota Morris.
- The senior dominated offensively, scoring 30 points while shooting 8-for-15 from beyond the arc for the Polars.
- She also added four rebounds and two steals against the Cougars.
