UMAC Players of the Week: January 22-28, 2024

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced its Player of the Week award winners Tuesday in the sports of men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s track, men’s and women’s field, and men’s tennis north division for the week of January 22-28, 2024. The UMAC Player of the Week awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications/sports information staff and selected each week by the latter group. 
 
MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Henry Fahnbulleh, Senior, University of Northwestern
Maple Grove, Minn. / Maple Grove
- Fahnbulleh was as efficient as it gets last week, shooting a staggering 18-22 from the field (81.8%) and averaging 20.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game in two wins.
- Sparked UNW's comeback win over North Central on Saturday with 22 points, five rebounds, and five assists on 10-12 shooting and also made the free throw that sealed the four-point win.
 
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Maddy Grove, Freshman, University of Minnesota Morris
Morris, Minn. / Morris Area
-  Grove led Minnesota Morris to wins over Trinity Bible and Crown this week, averaging 25.5 points per game on 50 percent shooting from the field (20-of-40).
- Also added seven rebounds in each game and had 2.5 assists per contest.
 
MEN’S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
David Collins, Senior, University of Wisconsin-Superior
Ironwood, Mich. / Luther L. Wright
- Collins ran in the 3k during the Warren Bowlus Invite, setting a personal-best time of 9:01.35, shaving 23 seconds off his previous PR.
- This time sets him atop the 3k field by a whopping 48 seconds.
 
WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Simone Stephens, Freshman, University of Wisconsin-Superior
Scottsdale, Ariz. / Saguaro
- Stephens competed in the 3k race at the Warren Bowlus Invite, clocking a time of 10:42.11.
- Currently sits first in the UMAC for 3k, while also holding the fifth best time by a freshman in the NCAA Division III North Region.
 
MEN’S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Cody Nye, Senior, University of Minnesota Morris
Soldotna, Alaska / Soldotna
- Making his season debut, Nye quickly went to the top of the UMAC charts and is tied for 21st nationally in the shot put after recording a winning throw of 51-8.25 (15.75m) at the SJU/CSB Alumni Meet.
 
WOMEN’S INDOOR FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
Anna Briggs, Junior, University of Minnesota Morris
Clear Lake, Minn. / Becker
- Briggs won the shot put and took third in the weight throw on Saturday at the SJU/CSB Alumni Meet.
- Currently ranks fourth in both events in the UMAC after registering distances of 36-7 (11.15m) in the shot put and 39-10.75 (12.16m) in the weight throw.
 
MEN’S TENNIS NORTH DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Yash Chhabra, Freshman, University of Wisconsin-Superior
Jaipur, Rajasthan / Sanskar School
- Chhabra faired well this weekend against Carroll, earning the tiebreaker victory in his singles match 10-7.
- Teaming up with Yellowjacket Lucca Paladini, the two defeated their counterparts in an 8-5 victory.
