ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) awarded a record 558 fall academic all-conference awards to 2023 fall sport student-athletes for excellence in the classroom, it was announced Wednesday. This surpassed the previous record of 525 honorees from the fall of 2021.

Individuals who earn a 3.5 or better grade point average (GPA) or better during their respective semesters of competition are recognized with the prestigious individual honor, while the team with the top GPA in each sport is also recognized. Student-athletes were acknowledged for academic achievement in the sports of men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer and volleyball. 

Martin Luther College led all members with a fall-best 96 student-athletes honored. University of Northwestern had the second-most student-athletes earn recognition with 85 honorees. Bethany Lutheran College was third with 70 academic award winners.

Three sports had more than 100 athletes earn all-academic honors. Women’s soccer had the most players recognized with 114 awards. Men’s soccer has the second-most award recipients with 104 honorees. Volleyball was third with 101 award winners.

In the team competition, Martin Luther claimed five of the eight awards which are given to the team with the top team GPA for their respective corresponding semesters. The Knights took the team awards in men’s cross country (3.83), football (3.08), men’s soccer (3.36), women’s soccer (3.75), and volleyball (3.77). Bethany Lutheran won two of the remaining three team awards, earning women’s cross country (3.65) and men’s golf (3.41). North Central University won the award for women’s golf (3.88).
