RECAP: UMAC Men's Tennis Semifinals

Minneapolis, MN - The 2023 Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Men's Tennis Tournament began on Friday night in Minneapolis on the campus of the University of Minnesota at the Baseline Tennis Center. Both matches were very competitive and this was the first UMAC tennis tournament that included schools from the newly added south division which includes Greenville University, Principia College, Webster University, and Westminster College. The Greenville Panthers won the south division regular season title and they faced the north divisions second place team, the Northwestern Eagles. In the other semifinal the north division regular season champion, the Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets, took on Principia College who finished second in the south division.

Both number one seeds took care of business on Friday night, with both Greenville and Wisconsin-Superior winning their matches by scores of 5-1. Greenville won the doubles portion 2-1 with wins going to the duo of Andres Sanchez and Rafael Rodriguez, as well as the tandem of Jordi Matuhen and Thibaut Tignee. In singles Clark Kent and Luke Motsinger both picked up a point for the Panthers, and Andres Sanchez clinched things for Greenville, winning 6-0, 6-2 to give the Panthers the 5-1 win.

Wisconsin-Superior won the doubles portion 2-1 with their wins coming from the duo of Igor Guetten Chaves and Ren Kurachi, and Mateo Sebastian Abarca Pino and Vitor Sasaya Sakakibara. In singles Vitor Sasaya Sakakibara and Jacob Zacharias both had wins with Andre Luiz De Melo Guedes clinching things for the Yellowjackets to give them the 5-1 win over Principia.

Looking ahead now to Saturday, the Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets will face off with the Greenville Panthers, for a shot at a UMAC Men's Tennis Tournament title, and an NCAA Tournament bid. The match starts at 1:00 from Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis.
