UMAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Postseason Awards
ST. PAUL, MN - For the seventh consecutive season, the University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets have won the indoor track and field championship. The Yellowjackets finished with 247.5 points over the weekend, putting them ahead of the second place finisher by 137.5 points. In the postseason awards, the Yellowjackets had fifteen athletes selected for all-conference, Michael Butterfield was selected as the Track Athlete of the Meet award, and head coach Glen Drexler was named Coach of the Year. Butterfield was fantastic over the weekend, winning three events including the mile run, 5000-meter run, and was a key contributer in the distance medley.
Jake Marzinske earned the Field Athlete of the Meet Award, and was also the top scorer at the UMAC championships, after dominating most of the weekend, winning the long jump, 60-meter hurdles, and the triple jump. Anthony Staryszak earned Rookie of the Year honors after he finished second in both the weight throw, and the shot put.
The all-conference list includes individuals who placed first or second in an event and individuals of first-place relay squads. There were eight athletes this year who earned at least two All-UMAC finishes including Michael Butterfield (Wisconsin-Superior), Zachary Reese (Wisconsin-Superior), Caleb Lash (Martin Luther), Iain Matheson (Wisconsin-Superior), Ethan Westimayer (Wisconsin-Superior), Anthony Staryszak (Minnesota Morris), Jake Marzinske (Bethany Lutheran), and Earl Foster (Wisconsin-Superior).
Martin Luther won the team sportsmanship award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches and awarded to the team that best represents sportsmanship throughout the entire season. Each team also had one representative named to the individual sportsmanship award list.
