UMAC Men's Basketball Postseason Awards
ST. PAUL, MN - After a remarkable regular season, where they went 12-2 in conference play and 21-4 overall, it's no surprise that the Bethany Lutheran Vikings led all UMAC schools with five selections to the three all-conference lists. Drew Sagedahl was named First Team All-Conference after also being named UMAC Tournament MVP over the weekend. Jax Madson earned Second Team All-Conference honors and then a trio of Vikings, Xavier Patterson Hunter Nielsen, and Mason Ackley were all named to the Honorable Mention team, Nielsen and Ackley were also selected to the UMAC All-Defensive Team.
The major awards were won by four different schools, with Kyle Kaemingk of Northwestern winning Player of the Year, Seth Royston from Crown winning Defensive Player of the Year, Blake Munson of Minnesota Morris winning Rookie of the Year, and Bethany Lutheran head coach Pat Garvin taking home Coach of the Year.
UMAC Player of the Year Kyle Kaemingk was phenominal all season for the Eagles, the senior averaged 21.6 points per game in conference play to lead the league. Kaemingk was at his best down the stretch of the regular season, scoring over twenty points per game in nine straight games and twenty-seven points or more in six of those games. Kyle is the second straight Eagle to take home UMAC Player of the Year honors after Noah Alm was named Player of the Year a season ago. Northwestern also had Henry Fahnbulleh and Caleb Hoilien named Second Team All-Conference.
Seth Royston was named UMAC Defensive Player of the Year after locking down the paint for the Polars this season. Royston was third in the UMAC in blocks per game and rebounds per game. Royston also had four double-doubles in conference play this season. Royston was named First Team All-Conference along with teammate Cade Carroll.
UMAC Rookie of the Year Blake Munson had a great freshman campaign for the Cougars, scoring 7.6 points per game and starting fifteen games for them this season. Also for Morris, Noah Kannegiesser was named 2nd Team All-Conference and Pal Dak was named to the Honorable Mention team and the UMAC All-Defensive Team.
UMAC Tournament runner up Wisconsin-Superior had Josef Fahrenholtz named First Team All-Conference and J'Vaun Walker was named Second Team All-Conference and was selected to the UMAC All-Defensive Team, the Yellowjackets impressed this season, making it to the UMAC title game as the number two seed before eventually falling to Bethany Lutheran.
