Northwestern Eagles Win UMAC Women's Basketball Tournament Championship

ST. PAUL, MN - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Women's Basketball Tournament concluded on Sunday afternoon, and the Northwestern Eagles defeated the North Central Rams to earn the conference tournament title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

No. 1 Northwestern 57 No. 2 North Central 42
The Eagles only led by one at the end of the first quarter by a score of 14-13. The Eagles would turn it up however in the second quarter, outscoring the Rams 20-8 to take a thirteen point lead into the locker room. Northwestern would extend that to eighteen by the end of the third quarter and went on to ultimately win by twelve, 57-42.

Northwestern's UMAC leading defense was the difference in this one, holding the Rams to only 42 points on just a 29.5% field goal percentage. Northwestern also out-rebounded the Rams by seventeen and had thirty one points off the bench compared to just five for the Rams.
  • Northwestern was led by tournament MVP Megan McGeough, who scored eighteen points on 8-15 from the field.
  • The Eagles scored 17 points off of turnovers compared to 5 by the Rams.
  • The Rams were led by thirteen points from Brycelyn Brewster.
The Eagles will learn where they are headed for the NCAA Tournament during the Division III women's basketball selection show on Monday, February 27th at 1:30 pm. The show will air on NCAA.com.
