ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced its Player of the Week award winners Monday in the sports of basketball and football. The UMAC Player of the Week awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications/sports information staff and selected each week by the latter group.
MEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
J’Vaun Walker, Senior, University of Wisconsin-Superior
Rosharon, Texas / Manvel
- Playing in 36 minutes in two games, Walker picked up 20 points against UW-La Crosse and exploded on the court against UW-River Falls, scoring 32 out of his 38 points in the second half to lead the Yellowjackets to a 75-70 victory over the Falcons.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Elise Besonen, Junior, University of Wisconsin-Superior
Ewen, Mich. / Ewen-Trout Creek
- Playing a full 40 minutes in two games at the Midway Classic in Chicago, Ill., the Yellowjacket junior finished with 11 points against Denison and led UWS to a win againts Pomona-Pitzer with a career-best 26 points.
FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Izayah Boss, Junior, University of Minnesota Morris
Bothell, Wash. / North Creek
- Boss led Minnesota Morris to a UMAC title by rushing for 172 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries in a 42-39 Cougar win over Northwestern on Saturday. His first touchdown in particular was important as UNW had jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter before Boss brought the Cougars back into it with a 68-yard scamper.
FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Hunter Infanger, Senior, University of Minnesota Morris
Osakis, Minn. / Osakis
- Infanger made a number of game-changing plays on defense for Minnesota Morris in its 42-39 win over Northwestern on Saturday. The senior had 11 tackles (six solo), with a tackle for a loss and a safety in the second quarter. He also forced a fumble that was returned into the UNW red zone and led to a Cougar touchdown and had a pass breakup in the end zone on the play prior to the game-clinching interception with less than 10 seconds remaining.
FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Alex Happ, Senior, University of Minnesota Morris
Brighton, Colo. / Prairie View
- Happ was 4-for-4 on extra points and 2-for-2 on field goals, making a 25-yarder at the end of the third quarter to knot the game with Northwestern up at 32-32 before hitting the game-winner late in the fourth quarter from a career-long distance of 42 yards in a 42-39 Minnesota Morris victory.
