Northwestern Builds Lead on Day Two of UMAC Women’s Golf Championship
BECKER, Minn. – University of Northwestern built up their lead in the second round of the UMAC Women’s Golf Championships, shooting 345 (+57) on the day. With a two-round team score of 686 (+110), UNW increased their lead to 54 strokes heading into the final day of competition on Saturday.
Paige Johnson again led the way for the Eagles with the best individual score of the day, shooting an 84 (+12) to bring her two-day score to 163 (+19) which gave her a three-stroke lead in the medalist competition. Kirsten Darling leaped six spots up the overall scoreboard by shooting an 84 (+12) as well, tying Johnson for the best second-round score and moving her to sixth place overall. Morgan Eckman maintained her third place position with a round of 85 (+13) on the day. Kelly Van Den Bussche shot a 92 (+20) to round out the top-four scores on the day for the Eagles.
Crown College shot a 378 (+90) in the second round, bringing their total score to 740 (+164) to remain second in the championship standings. The Polars were led by the duo of Kendall Clark and Shelby Cash who each shot rounds of 86 (+14) on the day. Clark’s two-day shot total stands at 166 (+22), just three strokes behind Johnson in the medalist competition heading into the final round.
University of Wisconsin-Superior maintained their third-place spot in day two, shooting a 387 (+99) to set their total score to 760 (+184). Ashton Parnell led the way for the Yellowjackets, shooting an 86 (+14) to jump up to fourth overall in the individual standings.
