ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Wisconsin-Superior Yellowjackets won their sixth conference title in program history on Saturday at the 2023 UMAC Men’s Cross Country Championship at Winthrop Golf Course. Glen Drexler earned Coach of the Year honors for coaching the Yellowjackets to their sixth championship in the past seven years while Michael Butterfield led the way on the course to earn the Individual Championship.

Butterfield won the Individual Championship with a time of 25:45.4; the fastest UMAC championship-winning time since Yellowjacket alumnus Jackson Lindquist won the individual title in 2016 with a time of 25:43.5. In his title run, Butterfield broke his career personal best time of 25:54.2 by 8.8 seconds.
Wisconsin-Superior had the most All-Conference honorees with eight, earning five First Team honors and three Second Team accolades. Martin Luther College followed with four All-Conference award winners, earning two First Team awards and two Second Team.
Bethany Lutheran won the team sportsmanship award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches and awarded to the team that best represents sportsmanship throughout the entire season, including the championship event. Each team also had one representative named to the individual sportsmanship award list.
