ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced its Player of the Week award winners Monday in the sports of football, volleyball, men's and women's soccer, and men’s and women’s cross country. The UMAC Player of the Week awards are nominated by UMAC coaches and athletics communications/sports information staff and selected each week by the latter group.
FOOTBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Beau Burk, Junior, University of Northwestern
Ogilvie, Minn. / Ogilvie
- Burk had eight receptions for 206 receiving yards: the third-most in Northwestern history.
- Led the Eagles offensively in a 32-12 win over Greenville.
- The junior now has the top three single-game receiving yard totals in UNW history.
FOOTBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jeremiah Stanton, Sophomore, Martin Luther College
Milwaukee, Wis. / Luther Prep
- Stanton recorded five tackles and two interceptions to anchor the MLC defense to its second victory of the season, defeating Crown 13-3 on Saturday.
- The defensive back played a big role in forcing the Polars, who lead the UMAC in passing, to just 208 yards through the air.
- Also had two pass break-ups in his coverage of Crowns’ top receivers.
FOOTBALL SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Garrett Elison, Senior, University of Minnesota Morris
Jerome, Idaho / Jerome
- Elison swung the momentum of the contest in a 34-13 win for Minnesota Morris at Westminster.
- After the Blue Jays scored late in the second quarter to pull to within 13-7, Elison took the ensuing kickoff 95 yards for a Cougar touchdown.
- In addition to his kick return, Elison added one punt return for 10 yards.
VOLLEYBALL OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Abby Glanzer, Junior, No. 4 University of Northwestern
Brandon, S.D. / Sioux Falls Christian
- Glanzer finished the week with 45 kills (15 per match and 4.1 per set), including 18 vs. St. Olaf.
- Hit .310 on the week, highlighted by an impressive .467 in UNW's 3-0 sweep of Northland on Saturday.
- Also logged four of her five aces on the week in the St. Olaf game.
VOLLEYBALL SETTER OF THE WEEK
McKenzie Newton, Senior, University of Minnesota Morris
West Fargo, N.D. / West Fargo Sheyenne
- Newton dialed up 77 assists (8.56 per set) in sweeps of Crown, Martin Luther, and Bethany Lutheran last week.
- Had 13 kills (1.44 per set) with a .323 hitting percentage.
- Added two aces, 38 digs (4.22 per set), and six blocks (two solo).
VOLLEYBALL DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Marley Aune, Sophomore, No. 4 University of Northwestern
New Brighton, Minn. / Avail Academy
- Aune had another fantastic week at the net, logging a total of 15 blocks (five per match and 1.36 per set), three of which were solo.
- Added four digs in UNW's 3-0 sweep of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday.
- Also tallied 25 kills in Northwestern's three contests.
MEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Phillip Eriksen, Senior, University of Wisconsin-Superior
Skjetten, Norway / Lorenskog
- Eriksen has caught fire in the second half of the season, posting back-to-back multiple goal matches last week.
- Scored twice against North Central on Wednesday and twice more against Martin Luther on Saturday.
- He posted a .500 shooting percentage in the two contests.
MEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Jamie Colvill, Senior, Northland College
Canvey Island, Essex, England / Basildon United
- Colvill became Northland's program leader in goalkeeper wins, finishing the week with 25 career wins.
- Had three saves in the win over Crown with a penalty kick save in the fifth minute to keep the game level.
- Had six saves in a shutout victory over Bethany Lutheran.
WOMEN'S SOCCER OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Niya Wilson, Senior, University of Wisconsin-Superior
Superior, Wis. / Superior Senior
- Wilson notched a hat trick, her first of the season and fifth of her career in Wednesday's home win over North Central.
- She also added a goal in Saturday's 5-1 road win over Martin Luther.
- Wilson leads the Yellowjackets with 19 goals on the year and has seven multi-goal games in 17 games to date this season.
WOMEN'S SOCCER DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Samantha Hansen, Freshman, University of Northwestern
Cottage Grove, Minn. / New Life Academy
- Hansen made five decisive saves in a 2-1 win over Bethany Lutheran that catapulted UNW into second place in the UMAC.
- Held Minnesota Morris scoreless before giving way to reserves after 56 minutes in a 7-1 win on Saturday.
MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Garrett Converse, Sophomore, North Central University
Lexington, Neb. / Lexington
- Converse ran a team-best 29:48.4 8k at the NCCAA North Regional Meet.
- Helped the Rams place second overall.
WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Brycelyn Brewster, Sophomore, North Central University
Burnsville, Minn. / United Christian Academy
- Brewster ran a 20:27:7 5k at the NCCAA North Regional Meet.
- Named the North Region Runner of the Year.
