2022 All-UMAC Men's Soccer Postseason Awards
ST. PAUL, MN - For the fifth straight season, the University of Wisconsin-Superior has captured the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) regular season and tournament title. The Yellowjackets only lost one match in UMAC play during the regular season, finishing with a record of 11-1-2 in conference play. UW-Superior will now travel down to Naperville Illinois, to face off with No. 10 North Central College (IL) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday.
The Yellowjackets success this season also carried over to the postseason awards, as senior forward Blake Perry earned UMAC Offensive Player of the Year Honors while head coach Joe Mooney won UMAC Coach of the Year. Perry was first or second in the conference in goals (15), game winning goals (6), and points (34). The Yellowjackets also led the conference in All-UMAC selections with eight, five of those selections coming on the first team. Including Perry, the other players on the All-UMAC First Team were Phillip Eriksen, Mackie Ringrose, Josh Bellamy, and Alex Hanson. Harry Ambler and Andy Rowland were named to the All-UMAC Second Team while Alex Paredes was named to the All-UMAC Honorable Mention team.
The Bethany Lutheran Vikings also had a very strong showing on this season's postseason awards list. Liam Peterson was named UMAC Defensive Player of the Year after leading the way for one of the top defenses in the conference, only giving up .86 goals per game this season. Antonio Lima was also named UMAC Rookie of the Year after being first or second in the UMAC in shots on goal (38), goals (16), assists (12), game-winning goals (6), and points (44). Aside from Peterson and Lima, who were also named All-UMAC First Team selections, Agostino Quadrio Curzio earned first team recognition as well for the Vikings. Bethany Lutheran had three players selected to the All-UMAC Second Team in Eirik Hansson, Danny Pilot, and Andre Silva. Sam Irsfeld was also recognized as an All-UMAC Honorable Mention selection for the Vikings.
The Lumberjacks of Northland College earned the number three seed in the UMAC Tournament this season and also had a strong showing in the postseason awards. Jamie Colville was named to the All-UMAC First Team and Quinn Bieber is an All-UMAC Second Team selection. The Lumberjacks also had four players selected to the All-UMAC Honorable Mention Team. Those players are Julian Swensen, Harrison Tibbetts, Jonah Evans, and Nick Diaz.
First year head coach Jon Forsythe and the Crown Polars is also well represented on the 2022 All-UMAC teams. Tim Jaeger earned All-UMAC First Team honors while freshman Josquin Silva was named an All-UMAC Second Team selection. Ethan Medina, Luca Kaltenbach, and Abel Mabala were all recognized as All-UMAC Honorable Mention selections as well.
Rounding out the All-UMAC First Team is Alejandro Alfaro from Northwestern. The Eagles also had Tim DeLoye named to the All-UMAC Second Team and Rigo Arellano and Jonathan-Thomas Olsen named All-UMAC Honorable Mentions. The Minnesota Morris Cougars had a couple of selections to the All-UMAC Second Team in Carter Watkinson and Lucas Harmon. Carson Friestad and Cooper Jones were All-UMAC Honorable Mention selections for the Cougars. A couple more selections on the All-UMAC Second Team is Xander Heiman from Martin Luther and Weston Buckley of North Central. The Rams also had Jerad Buse selected as an All-UMAC Honorable Mention selection.
Martin Luther won the Team Sportsmanship Award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches and awarded to the team that best represents sportsmanship throughout the entire season. Each team also had one representative named to the individual sportsmanship award list.
