2022 All-UMAC Volleyball Postseason Awards
ST. PAUL, MN - The University of Northwestern-St. Paul Eagles have put together yet another impressive season, finishing the regular season ranked No. 5 in the country with a record of 28-2, compiling six wins over top twenty-five opponents, and not losing a set in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play, becoming the first UMAC school ever to accomplish that. The Eagles have been selected to host a regional in the upcoming NCAA Tournament, with an upcoming matchup against North Park on Thursday.
There were co-UMAC Players of the Year in Marylyn Schroyer from Northwestern and Maggie Jones from Minnesota Morris. Schroyer was also named UMAC Defensive Player of the Year while Marley Aune from Northwestern was named UMAC Rookie of the Year. Northwestern head coach Beth Wilmeth was voted UMAC Coach of the Year.
Schroyer had a fantastic season for the Eagles, totaling 639 digs on the season, good for 6.03 digs per set, both of those sit tops in the UMAC and top ten nationally. Northwestern led the way with six total All-UMAC selections, including Schroyer, the reigning Rookie of the Year Abbie Glanzer was named to the All-UMAC First Team along with Ari Schmidt. On the All-UMAC Second Team was Gabby Straub and Rookie of the Year Marley Aune and Kiera Brown were named to the All-UMAC Honorable Mention team.
Maggie Jones of Minnesota Morris highlighted the Cougars All-UMAC selections, the co-UMAC Player of the Year finished the season with 188 kills, good for 2.27 kills per set. Also named to the All-UMAC First-Team from the Cougars was Alyssa Ukestad. McKenzie Newton was named to the All-UMAC Second Team while Laura Wellbrock was named to the All-UMAC Honorable Mention Team.
The Yellowjackets of UW-Superior was just behind Northwestern with five All-UMAC selections after reaching the UMAC Tournament title game for the first time in program history. Senior outside hitter Alexie Pryd was named to the All-UMAC First Team to lead the way for UW-Superior. On the All-UMAC Second Team were a trio of Yellowjackets in Jenna Anderson, Cassy Teff, and Maiana Stark. Kaylin Plautz was also named to the All-UMAC Honorable Mention team.
Rounding out the All-UMAC Second Team is junior outside hitter Larissa Fossum from Northland College. On the All-UMAC Honorable Mention team is Alexis Morsching from Bethany Lutheran, and Grace Kieselhorst from Martin Luther. Northwestern won the team sportsmanship award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches and awarded to the team that best represents sportsmanship throughout the entire season. Each team also had one representative named to the individual sportsmanship award list.
