2022 All-UMAC Football Postseason Awards
ST. PAUL, MN - With another Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) football season wrapped up, it's time to take a look at the 2022 UMAC All-Conference teams. The University of Northwestern Eagles were the champions of the regular season, finishing a perfect 6-0 in conference play, and winning the UMAC for the first time since 2016. The conference was very competitive at the top, with Minnesota Morris and Greenville pushing Northwestern late in the season. The Eagles will face off with No. 4 St. John's on Saturday in the first round of the NCAA Division III Football Playoffs.
Player of the Year awards were split up between the three schools mentioned prior. Paul Garrett took home Most Valuable Offensive Player. Garrett led the UMAC in multiple categories including rushing yards, rushing yards per game, and touchdowns. His total of twenty-five touchdowns is at least thirteen more than anybody else in the conference and is the most in the nation. Most Valuable Defensive Player goes to Chayce Meyer from Minnesota Morris. Meyer led the UMAC in tackles for loss and sacks and helped lead a Cougars defense that only gave up 15.7 points per game. Derek Martinez-Delgado from Greenville earned Most Valuable Lineman this season, the senior out of Orlando helped pave the way for the Panthers to lead the UMAC in scoring at 42.2 points per game, and rushing yards per game with 278.8. Cole Uplegger of Northwestern took home Most Valuable Special Teams Player. Uplegger finished second on the team in scoring this season and going 29-31 on extra points and 7-11 on field goals. Matt Moore from Northwestern earned Coach of the Year honors after leading the Eagles to a 6-4 overall record, a perfect 6-0 UMAC record, and a berth in the NCAA Playoffs.
UMAC champion Northwestern had a strong showing on this years all-conference teams. Six Eagles were named to the All-UMAC First Team Offense including Caden Cantrell (QB), Jeremiah Staten (RB), Beau Burk (WR), Damon Clapper (TE), Jack Megason (OL), and Dylan Brouillard (OL). Two other Eagles were named to the All-UMAC Second Team Offense in Sivert Klefsaas (RB) and Luke Ainsley (OL). On the defensive side, Luke Malamisuro (DB) and Bradly Kulinski (LB) were both named to the All-UMAC First Team Defense after their outstanding seasons, followed by five Northwestern defenders being selected on the All-UMAC Second Team Defense in Nathan Fenske (DB), Paul Berglund (DL), Jayden Goodwin (LB), Zane Schlabach (LB), and Sam Schlabach (LB). Most Valuable Special Teams Player Cole Uplegger (K) was named to the All-UMAC First Team Special Teams and Will Schleicher (P) was an All-UMAC Second Team Special Teams selection.
Greenville also was well represented on this year's all-conference teams. Most Valuable Offensive Player Paul Garrett was an All-UMAC First Team selection along with Delrey Crowder (WR), Seth Logan (TE), and Derek Martinez-Delgado (OL). On the All-UMAC First Team Defense, Turjon McLaurin (DL) and Dewayne Garrett (LB) were both selected. On the All-UMAC Second Team for offense and defense, the Panthers had eight athletes selected in Terrance Brown (WR), Anthony Rodriguez (TE), Dustin Konvalinka (OL), Jameson Wolanski (OL), Jaden Apple-Gibbs (DB), William Nowlin (DB), Mitchell Schaeffer (DL), and Lakari Benjamin (LB). The Panthers also took home a majority of the special teams awards, claiming four of the eight spots. On the All-UMAC First Team Special Teams were Dylan Carns (P), and Paul Garrett (PR) and then Lucas Hermo (K) and Dominic Feess (KR), were named to the All-UMAC Second Team Special Teams.
Minnesota Morris had eight players named to the All-UMAC First Team offense or defense. Three of those were on the offensive side of the ball in Izayah Boss (RB), Christian Diederich (OL) and Jeremy Lombardi (OL). The Cougars had a UMAC best five players selected to the All-UMAC First Team on defense. Those players were Garrett Elison (DB), Hunter Infanger (DB), Chayce Meyer (DL), Carter Maurice (DL), and Alex Emmrich (LB). Garrett Elison was also named to the All-UMAC First Team Special Teams as a kick returner. Minnesota Morris also had Marcus Reeb (QB), Ethan Tang (WR), Cameron Whitney (TE), Victor Lopez (OL), and Mondo Calderon (DL) named to the All-UMAC Second Team.
The Crown Polars finished with their highest number of UMAC wins since 2015 after finishing 3-3 in conference play this season. The Polars had Terry Warner (WR) named to the All-UMAC First Team while Quis Icon (DL) and Rudy Criner (DB) was named to the All-UMAC First Team Defense. Diego Narezo (QB) and Isaiah Anfeld (WR) were selected for the All-UMAC Second Team Offense while Gabe Banks was a All-UMAC Second Team Defense selection.
Martin Luther had Isaiah Hahm (OL) selected to the All-UMAC First Team Offense while Adam Arrowsmith (DL) and Joey Ehlke (LB) were All-UMAC First Team Defense selections. On the second team Mason Cox (WR), Zach Thiel (TE), Tyler Holzhueter (OL), and Nathan Golisch (DB) were all All-UMAC Second Team selections.
Westminster had Dawson Brandt (LB) selected to the All-UMAC First Team Defense. On the second team Ethan Talleur (OL), Robert Anthony (DB), and Justin Scales (DL) were all All-UMAC Second Team offense or defense selections.
The Finlandia Lions had a couple of All-UMAC selections as well. Jesse Hill (LB) was an All-UMAC Second Team Defense selection while Montez Archer (PR) was named an All-UMAC Second Team Special Teams selection.
Martin Luther won the Team Sportsmanship Award, an accolade that is selected by the UMAC coaches and awarded to the team that best represents sportsmanship throughout the entire season. Each team also had one representative named to the individual sportsmanship award list.
