University of Wisconsin-Superior Wins UMAC Men's Soccer Regular Season Title
SUPERIOR, WI - For the fifth straight year, the Yellowjackets of the University of Wisconsin-Superior have won the UMAC Men's Soccer regular season title. It came down to the final day of the regular season with Bethany Lutheran not making it easy, the Vikings finish the regular season with thirty-four points while UW-Superior needed a win over Crown yesterday to finish with thirty-five points, and the UMAC title.
Although Crown had already locked up the number four seed in the UMAC Men's Soccer Championship, they gave the Yellowjackets everything they could handle as the teams were in a 0-0 tie at the end of the first half yesterday. In the second half UW-Superior came out and put a goal up in the 50th minute from Alex Hanson to take a 1-0 lead that they wouldn't relinquish. They tacked on another goal from Jake Kidd in the 83rd minute to put the game away and give the Yellowjackets a 2-0 lead. The UW-Superior defense was phenomonal yesterday, allowing just one shot on goal the entire night.
On the season, the Yellowjackets finish 11-1-2 in UMAC play and 14-3-2 overall. Offensively, UW-Superior is led by Blake Perry who is second in the UMAC in goals scored with thirteen, and Philip Eriksen who is fourth in the UMAC in goals scored with ten. Defensively, the Yellowjackets are led by goalie Alex Paredes, he leads the UMAC in goals against average, giving up just .778 goals per game.
The Yellowjackets have also clinched the number one seed in the UMAC Men's Soccer Championship, which will begin this Wednesday, November 2nd. UW-Superior will face off with the number four seed Crown Polars, while Bethany Lutheran, who finished just one point behind the Yellowjackets in the standings, will play the third seeded Northland Lumberjacks in Mankato on Wednesday.
