Saints sweep 2020 UMAC-All Conference major awards

ST. PAUL, Minn. --- Following its fifth-consecutive Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament title, St. Scholastica's women's golf program secured a clean sweep of the UMAC's major awards, as announced on Tuesday afternoon. 

Hannah Johnson was named Player of the Year while teammate Olivia Wright notched low-medalist honors, carding a three-round score of 251 at the UMAC Championships, four strokes clear of the field. Newcomer Anna Lindemann was named the UMAC Rookie of the Year while Head Coach Rachel Gray took home Coach of the Year honors. As a team, the Saints took first at the UMAC Spring Preview, the MLC Invitational and the UMAC Championships. 

The top eight finishers from the UMAC Championships plus two individuals selected by coaches' vote were named All-UMAC First Team, while five individuals were tabbed Honorable Mention via coaches' vote.

Johnson received UMAC Player of the Year honors, leading the conference in scoring average (84.0). The senior racked up two victories and four top-5 finishes in seven events played, carding a season-low 74 along the way. Johnson was also named UMAC Player of the Week three times this season. She concludes her UMAC career as a two-time Player of the Year and three-time First Team All- UMAC honoree, earning low-medalist honors in both 2018 and 2019. 

One season removed from being named Rookie of the Year, Wright showed her perseverance in the final round of the UMAC Championships to earn low-medalist honors. She led after the opening round, but trailed Johnson by three strokes after round two. Wright proceeded to fire the only sub-80 round of the tournament on the final day to claim her first low-medalist honor. 

Anna Lindemann, who finished 3rd at the UMAC Championships, earned her Rookie of the Year award, sitting fourth in the UMAC in scoring average (88.9). Lindemann played in six events for the Saints, recording two top-five and three top-10 finishes. 

Under the leadership of Coach of the Year Rachel Gray, CSS continued to flex its muscles throughout the regular season and the UMAC Championships. Gray's group led wire-to-wire at both the UMAC Spring Preview and the UMAC Championships as Wright, Johnson and Lindemann went 1-2-3 in the final Tournament standings. 

The top-eight players who automatically received All-UMAC status is as follows in order of their scores: Wright, Johnson, Lindemann, Mattie Krause (UNW), Mikayla Santjer (NC), Hannah Garcia (CSS), Hayley Thompson (BLC) and Alayna Tulip (UWS). Payton Sierra (UMM) and Maddy Bloedel (NC) were honored as At-Large selections to make up the 10 individuals with First Team All-UMAC nods. 

Shelby Maloney (UMM), Maddie Friedman (UWS), Kirsten Darling (UNW), Kelly Van den Bussche (UNW) and Tori Grates (UMM) were the five individuals to earn Honorable Mention All-UMAC accolades. 

UW-Superior won the team sportsmanship award which is selected by the UMAC coaches and awarded to the team that best represents sportsmanship throughout the entire season, including the championship event. Each team also had one representative named to the individual sportsmanship award list.
