ST. PAUL, Minn.---In just a few short days, the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) will see women’s soccer teams return to the pitch for the first time in nearly 18 months for a shortened, yet meaningful, competitive season.
All nine UMAC women’s soccer programs will compete in a single-round eight-game regular season schedule with the final day of competition set for Saturday, May 1. All nine teams will compete in a unique tournament format beginning Monday, May 3.
In the most recent 2019 UMAC women’s soccer season, the College of St. Scholastica cruised to a 8-0 league record to capture the regular season title before winning the UMAC tournament to advance to the NCAA Championship. As their final season in the conference concludes, the Saints will look to take advantage of one last opportunity to reign atop the UMAC after spending the last 15 years as one of the top programs in the league.
However, the Saints will likely be challenged by a University of Northwestern squad that has proved to be the Saints’ top competition over the last three seasons. The Eagles finished as the runner-up in 2019 and have played in the last three tournament championship games. They last won the regular season title in 2017 and advanced to the NCAA tournament in 2018.
UMAC regular season competition begins Friday and Saturday with regularly-scheduled conference games alternating between Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the week and on Saturdays. Spectators will be allowed at the discretion of each UMAC institution with all institutional policies listed on our UMAC Institutional Spectator Policies Page.
