ST. PAUL, Minn.---As a beautiful start to spring continues, the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) pushes forward with its plan to offer fall sports in a non-traditional fashion in order to provide student-athletes an opportunity to compete when normal opportunities were lost this fall due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The next sport ready for an exciting start is men’s soccer – the UMAC season kicks off this weekend with the first conference game slated for Friday, April 2 while the remaining games will commence Saturday.
All nine UMAC men’s soccer programs will compete in a single-round eight-game regular season schedule with the final day of competition set for Saturday, May 1. All nine teams will compete in a unique tournament format beginning Monday, May 3.
The last time the UMAC was in action in men’s soccer, the University of Wisconsin-Superior ran away with its second-consecutive regular season title – recording a perfect 8-0 UMAC record. In that 2019 season, the Yellowjackets won their third-straight UMAC postseason title before advancing on to the NCAA Championship where they would win their opening round contest for the second year in a row.
For each of the last five seasons, the Yellowjackets have advanced to the UMAC tournament championship game – and each time they have faced the College of St. Scholastica. In this final season for the Saints in the UMAC, there will be one last opportunity for these bridge rivals to face off as likely two of the top teams in the conference with a chance at the UMAC regular season and postseason titles.
UMAC regular season competition begins Friday and Saturday with regularly-scheduled conference games alternating between Tuesdays and Wednesdays during the week and on Saturdays. Spectators will be allowed at the discretion of each UMAC institution with all institutional policies listed on our UMAC Institutional Spectator Policies Page.
The conference tournament will take place Monday, May 3 through Saturday, May 8. Below is the tournament schedule:
