ST. PAUL, Minn.---The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) announced finalized plans for the UMAC Indoor Track and Field Championships as well as modifications to the conference tournaments for men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, baseball, softball and men’s and women’s tennis. Schedules were also adjusted for spring volleyball competition.

Following the cancellation of NCAA winter championships, the UMAC finalized plans to host separate men’s and women’s championship meets for indoor track and field. The UMAC Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championship will be hosted Saturday, Feb. 27 at the University of Wisconsin-Superior, while the UMAC Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championship is set for Saturday, March 6 at the College of St. Scholastica. Spectators will not be permitted for these events due to facility capacity limits and state and county restrictions.

The UMAC championship tournament dates for men’s and women’s basketball have been modified due to institutional testing schedules and the cancellation of NCAA winter championships. The men’s opening round game will remain on Monday, March 1. The quarterfinals for men and women will take place on Thursday, March 4 at the site of the higher seed. Following the quarterfinals, the tournament will be reseeded with semifinal games set for Saturday, March 6. The men’s and women’s championship games will take place Monday, March 8.

In volleyball, similar modifications were made to the conference tournament structure due to institutional testing schedules. The semifinal round has moved from Wednesday, April 7 to Thursday, April 8. All other contests are scheduled as planned. In addition to the tournament adjustments, the 2021 UMAC volleyball regular season spring schedule has also been modified with all weekday matches previously scheduled for Tuesdays or Wednesdays to now take place on Thursdays.

A shift in the NCAA spring championship selection and competition dates prompted the UMAC Council of Athletics Directors to support moving each of the UMAC softball and baseball tournaments by one week. The UMAC softball championship tournament will now take place Thursday-Saturday, May 13-15 at the site of the No. 1 seed. The conference baseball tournament will now be Thursday-Saturday, May 20-22, also at the No. 1 seed. No modifications to tournament structure or format have been made.

The UMAC men’s and women’s tennis championship tournaments will move to include all participating teams this year. The men’s quarterfinals will take place Thursday, April 29 while the women’s quarterfinals will be Saturday, May 1. Semifinals will remain as scheduled with men’s matches on Monday, May 3 and Wednesday, May 5 for the women. The men’s championship match is slated for Friday, May 7, and the women’s championship takes place Saturday, May 8.

The UMAC continues to monitor changing circumstances related to COVID-19, and any further decisions for 2020-2021 made by conference governance groups will continue to be driven by available guidance from local and state health officials and the NCAA SSI and are subject to change.
