UMAC Women's Indoor Track and Field ready for exciting start Friday
SUPERIOR, Wis.---The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Women's Indoor Track and Field Championship begins Friday at the University of Wisconsin-Superior as the College of St. Scholastica is positioned with a strong group of returning athletes to win an 11th-consecutive title when events wrap up on Saturday afternoon. The Saints enter the meet with six of the top individual performances this season.
Notables
- St. Scholastica won the 2019 indoor meet by a margin of 58 points. They tallied 219.5 total points for their 10th-straight title. St. Scholastica is still the only women's program to win a UMAC indoor championship.
- Anika Kling returns for her final indoor season as the reigning top point scorer from last year. The senior boasts the top times in all three of the sprint events (60-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes) as well as the top mark in the long jump. Kling is the defending event champion in three of those four events and should be positioned to earn the top honor again this year.
- In all six field events, the individuals with the top marks this season are all the defending event champions in each respective event. The Saints own three of the six top performances in the field events.
- All of the running events (excluding the hurdles) have top times owned by just three individuals. Kling occupies the top spot in three events, while McKenna Langerud of the University of Minnesota Morris and Sarah Presler of Bethany Lutheran College each top two events.
- In addition to Kling, two of the other top award winners are part of the field in 2020 including St. Scholastica's Natalie St. Marie who was the Co-Field Athlete of the Meet in 2019 and Jenna Benson of Minnesota Morris who was named the Rookie of the Year.
