Late game 3-pointers lift No. 4 Saints past No. 5 Storm

DULUTH, Minn.---The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) men’s basketball quarterfinal kicked off the conference tournament in thrilling fashion as the No. 4 seed College of St. Scholastica hit a late-game run of 3-point shots to comeback and take down No. 5 seed Crown College 75-71 Monday evening.

The higher-seeded Saints hit 13 buckets from beyond the arc including five in the last 6:38 of the game to pull away after being down by five. Collin Anderson sank the go-ahead 3-pointer to break a 71-71 tie with 36 seconds remaining to send the Saints on to Wednesday's semifinal. 

Anderson and Nick Carlson led the victorious Saints with 18 points each and the two combined for nine-made 3-pointers. Three other players also scored in double figures including Jarod Wilken who tallied 14 and was 5-for-7 from the field. Jack Silgen added a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double in the win. 

For the Storm, senior star Tim Wendel closed out his 2,000-plus scoring career with a game-high 30 points on 12-for-22 shooting from the field as well as a game-high 18 rebounds. Wendel is the all-time leading scorer in the UMAC in the NCAA Division III era for players who played all four seasons in the UMAC. He led the Storm to three-straight UMAC tournament appearances. The Storm finish the season 10-16 overall. 
 
The No. 4 Saints will travel to face No. 1 seed University of Northwestern at 7 p.m. in St. Paul, Minnesota, for the first of two semifinals. The other game will feature No. 3 University of Wisconsin-Superior heading to No. 2 Bethany Lutheran College at 5:30 p.m. in Mankato, Minnesota. The two winners will meet in the tournament championship Saturday at the location of the higher seed.
