UMAC Lessons from Leaders: Todd Bouchie, St. Scholastica
The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Lessons from Leaders video series is released Wednesdays in 2019-20 and features Commissioner Corey Borchardt interviewing conference coaches about their success within the conference and at the regional and national levels. The series promotes coaches who have helped enhance the identity and image of the conference as whole. The interviewees include coaches who either won a UMAC regular season or postseason title in 2018-19 or were featured as a UMAC Coach of the Decade during the conference's "10-Year Celebration."
This episode of UMAC Lessons from Leaders features UMAC Commissioner Corey Borchardt interviewing College of St. Scholastica men's and women's track anf field head coach Todd Bouchie. Since taking over the St. Scholastica track and field programs after the 2016 season, Bouchie's Saint teams have won a total of five UMAC championships including three women's indoor titles and two outdoor titles. In the last three seasons, Bouchie has also been named the UMAC Coach of the Year four times.
Bouchie began working with the St. Scholastica track and field programs in 2005. Since 2012, Bouchie has coached 10 student-athletes to 29 NCAA Division III Championship appearances and seven All-America performances.
Commissioner Borchardt talks with Bouchie on a number of topics including the need for patience, honesty and adaptability in coaching track and field. He also talks about lessons he's learned in his coaching journey and challenges facing Division III coaches.
