The UMAC Game of the Week runs each Thursday during the conference regular season and breaks down one key matchup from one sport. 

ST. PAUL, Minn.---The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) women's basketball season is picking up in action less than halfway through the season with six teams closely in reach of one another with just one or two losses so far. The College of St. Scholastica and the University of Minnesota Morris will renew a historic rivalry Saturday as these two teams with strong starts are slated to meet Saturday at 4:45 p.m. in Morris.

Matchup History
  • Minnesota Morris and St. Scholastica were two of the top programs in the early years of the UMAC tenure in Division III with both programs competing consistently for the regular and postseason titles as well as spots in the NCAA tournament. 
  • The Cougars have won seven-straight games, though, over the Saints and eight of the last 10. The Saints' last victory against the Cougars came on Jan. 3, 2016 on the road by a margin of nine points.
  • Last season, Minnesota Morris won both contests by 20 points or more.

This Season
  • Minnesota Morris dropped its first UMAC game of the season Wednesday in a 69-66 road loss to Bethany Lutheran College. The Cougars are one of four teams with just one loss in league play so far this season. The Cougars have faced just two postseason squads from last year with its top win against North Central University. 
  • St. Scholastica improved to 3-2 in UMAC play Wednesday with a solid 70-45 win over Martin Luther College. The Saints have played three of their first five UMAC games again playoff teams and earned a big win over the University of Northwestern on the road before the holidays.
  • Minnesota Morris leads conference play in scoring margin (15.5 ppg) and rebounding margin (11.5 ppg). The Saints own a -2.2 rebounding margin and will need to be successful on the glass and defensively to slow down the Cougars who lead in conference scoring (74.5 ppg) as well.
