The UMAC Game of the Week runs each Thursday during the conference regular season and breaks down one key matchup from one sport. 

ST. PAUL, Minn.---Just over three weeks remain in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) women's basketball regular season and rematches from the first round of games will be critical for a number of teams in postseason contention. Two of those teams meet for the second time this season Saturday when the University of Northwestern hosts North Central University at 4:45 p.m.

Matchup History
  • North Central won the first game of the season in a closely-contested 61-59 game at home. 
  • Northwestern defeated North Central 80-64 in the opening round of the UMAC tournament in the quarterfinal last year. 
  • In their final regular season matchup of 2018-19, the Rams defeated the Eagles 65-57 to start a four-game winning streak that propelled the Rams into the UMAC postseason for the first time in program history.

This Season
  • North Central suffered its first loss in the last four games falling 77-66 to the College of St. Scholastica on the road Wednesday evening. 
  • Northwestern extended its winning streak to three-straight Wednesday in picking up a 74-36 victory over Crown College. 
  • The Rams are 5-4 and in the thick of a three-team race for the final two spot of the postseason field currently. Three of their four losses have come to teams in the top four as well as a loss against a St. Scholastica team that is in the thick of the race as well. 
  • The Eagles are an impressive 8-2 with key wins against the top two teams in the University of Wisconsin-Superior and Bethany Lutheran College – last season's regular and postseason champions, respectively. Their losses have come to the Rams and Saints.
