ST. PAUL, Minn.---The first Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Game of the Week is slated for Saturday, Sept. 21 as conference football teams gear up for the start of league competition. Two teams that are familiar foes match up in what should be another competitive contest when Greenville University travels north to face University of Northwestern at Reynolds Field at 12 p.m. Here's all you need to know for the big game.
Matchup History
- Greenville and Northwestern will meet for the 10th time since the UMAC joined NCAA Division III.
- Greenville has a 5-4 edge over Northwestern with the Panthers winning the first four matchups (the teams did not play in 2010).
- Northwestern has won four of the last five games over Greenville including a 24-7 win on the road last season.
- Six of the games between the two squads have been decided by seven points or fewer.
This Season
- Both teams started off with tough schedules with each team facing an opponent receiving votes in the D3football.com Top 25 national poll.
- Greenville faced Wartburg College at home in the opening week and scored the first two touchdowns of the game before falling 60-21. Wartburg was picked to win the American Rivers Conference this season.
- Northwestern fell in the opening weekend 42-12 to Central College on the road in Pella, Iowa. Central was selected second in the American Rivers preseason poll.
- Greenville nabbed a convincing 31-17 win over Kalamazoo College to start the season 1-1, while Northwestern comes in 0-2 after falling to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 30-7 last Saturday.
