The Saints' victory was just 8.5 points ahead of the University of Wisconsin-Superior which finished as runner-up for the second-straight season. The margin of victory is the narrowest in the Saints' 10-year reign atop the conference as well as since 2009 when the University of Northwestern last won by a margin of 0.5 points over the Saints. This year, the Saints won a conference-best seven regular season titles, while Wisconsin-Superior won six as the two combined to capture 13 of the 18 UMAC regular season championships.

This spring, the Saints won fewer titles than in years past missing out on softball for the first time in a decade and women's outdoor track and field. However, the Saints were steady in other sports again winning men's and women's tennis and a 23rd-straight baseball title. The Yellowjackets earned a fourth-straight title in men's outdoor track and field to hihglight the spring and also had runner-up finishes in softball and women's outdoor track and field.

The University of Northwestern jumped the University of Minnesota Morris after trailing following the winter season. The Eagles were third with 91 points and were just 2.5 points ahead of the Cougars with 88.5. The Eagles finished as runner-up in both men's and women's tennis to lead their spring performances, and the Cougars won the women's outdoor track and field meet to help to a strong overall finish.

Bethany Lutheran College remained solidly ahead of Martin Luther College as each finish fifth (80) and sixth (62.5), respectively. The Vikings won a first-ever title in softball and placed second in baseball, while Martin Luther tied for third in men's track and field and qualified for the men's tennis postseason.

Crown College moved ahead of Northland College collecting 41.5 points with a baseball postseason berth for the first time ever. Northland was eighth (35) and North Central University was ninth (27).

Since the award's inception in 1996-97, St. Scholastica has won the Kruse Award a UMAC-best 15 times. The award, which is named after Mr. Jerome Kruse, a longtime athletic director at the former Northwestern College (Wis.) and Martin Luther College, travels to the full-member institution with the most points accumulated by the place finishes of the college's athletic teams in the final standings of 18 conference sponsored sports.
