ST. PAUL, Minn.---The Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) men's basketball season is already underway with just one day of games left before the holiday break. In just a short amount of time, the College of St. Scholastica and the University of Northwestern have again shown both programs will be favorites in the title race after strong starts to the season. The two meet in a classic rivalry matchup for the first time this season Saturday at 3 p.m.

Matchup History
- Northwestern defeated St. Scholastica 92-89 in overtime in the UMAC men's basketball championship game. This was the third time in the last four seasons the two programs have met in the championship game.
- The Eagles and Saints have played each other in the UMAC tournament each of the last six years with Northwestern emerging victorious in all of those games. In five of those years, the Eagles were UMAC champions making five NCAA tournament appearances with three wins including an opening-round win over Saint John's University last March.
- Last season, Northwestern won all three games against St. Scholastica by a total of 12 points.
- The Eagles have won eight of the last 10 games against the Saints including the last four.
This Season
- Northwestern started off the season with a one-point loss to Milwaukee School of Engineering before rebounding to win three-straight including a big win over Gustavus Adolphus College. The Eagles hit a three-game skid after that before winning its first two conference games.
- The Eagles enter Saturday's game with a 2-1 conference record after a 100-98 OT loss to Bethany Lutheran College on the road Wednesday.
- St. Scholastica opened with a tough non-conference slate and lost five-straight before getting a road win over Finlandia University. That started a three-game winning streak for the Saints.
- The Saints head into the big game 2-1 in the UMAC after suffering a 72-58 loss to bridge rival University of Wisconsin-Superior on the road Wednesday.
